Guest PlayingWithFire Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Hi all, I recently purchased the i910 from Verizon thinking that it would make a good ipod touch replacement. And so far, I have been really frustrated by the experience. I was wondering if you all have any answers to some of the questions below from this newbie. Thanks a bunch in advance. 1)Media Players in the Omnia, what do you guys recommend? I have a largish library(40gb) of music and I'm very anal about it being right. Windows Media Player Mobile sync everything fine but is just really hard to navigate using fingers. I like the touch player but it 1)crashes sometimes when I try to update songs and more importantly 2)don't take into account album song orders. It feels really weird when Bloc Party's Silent Alarm doesn't start with Like Eating Glass or Beatles' Revolver doesn't start with Taxman. I tried Nitrogen but that program is down to the bone and I can't even manage to get a playlist going off of a big folder. So I was wondering what program those of you that use this as a music player uses. 2)Is there anyway to combine the storage space of "storage space"(omnia i910's internal 8gb space) and my "storage card" spaces so I don't have to split my music in 2 places? 3)Is there a good program where I can sync Winamp or iTune with Windows Mobile 6.1? Or if there is a program to put all my songs into Windows Media Player(from either Winamp or iTune) and keep the ratings I have on the songs would be great.(Winamp imports all the itune ratings) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! Hmm, on my i910, Touch Player recognized album track order, I synced songs using WMP. I tried Nitrogen but it was crashy for me, and I didn't like the UI-many people swear by it though so it's worth a shot. I too hated the fact that Touch Player had to "scan" my music library each time too. After flashing to 6.5 it worked for a while then stopped. I haven't bothered with it since lol, a shame since I actually like it (fast forward and rewind by holding down the next track/last track buttons FTW!) as it made listening to podcasts a lot easier by being able to rewind to the funny parts. I thought that there was no real way to get WMP to have those fast forward and rewind buttons, (i took a glance at the button assignment options and was a bit confused as to how it treated the optical mouse) so i used touch player until it died lol. I then went back into media player and found that i could set the optical mouse to work as a fast forward/rewind toggle as long as the mouse is set to "4-way" navigation first and not mouse mode. A swipe to the left jumps me back 5 seconds within a song and a swipe to the right jumps me forward. Not bad. Also swiping up and down controls volume by default in WMP so that was handy (didn't notice that one until I would listen to podcasts with my Omnia in my pocket and suddenly the sound would go down lol, now I just tap the power button on the top to turn off the screen and disable the optical mouse until I need it. :) As for your question about storage space: As far as I could tell, Touch Player never actually moved the songs from where I synced them to on the phone in WMP on my computer (I always chose "My Storage" in the sync pane in WMP on my computer) it just scanned the location i guess IDK. If music happened to be not be in my storage in your case, you can always hook the phone back up to your computer, then use My Computer to browse the phone's filesystem (When you double click the phone listing in My Computer, you'll see two parts-My storage and another "drive", choose the one not labeled "my storage", click "my documents" then "my music") and drag and drop the songs into the "music" folder in "My Storage" As for winamp and iTunes support, I honestly do not know, as I never owned an iPod mp3 player, and never used WinAmp. Guest eufouria Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 S2P, sorry to any fans but, bleh. There essentially is no library simply a file explorer. I didn't even listen to a whole album on it switched back to Pocket Player after the first song.

Guest jonboyuk Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Pocket Player 4.1 definitely!!
Guest gorf1000 Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 S2P, sorry to any fans but, bleh. There essentially is no library simply a file explorer. I didn't even listen to a whole album on it switched back to Pocket Player after the first song. I've been using S2P for quite a while now, to get a library you just select the top level directory. In my case I just select the My Music folder on my My Storage and it pulls in all the albums within it. To surf amongst the albums nicely just turn the phone landscape and you can swipe through all the album covers. For a free app i think it's very well built, and it's integration with S2U2 (something that a lot of us use) is great.
Guest brandogg Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 S2P is pretty great, if you know how to use it. The only improvements I would like to see are a basic EQ, fixed landscape mode, and correct placement for album are on WQVGA (Omnia) screens. The album are should be placed a bit higher, above the <<, [>, and >> buttons (reverse, play, forward). There's quite a bit of empty space there, even if you have the track progress bar showing. Also being able to choose only to use specific folders would be nice. I'm also a fan of Samsung's Touch Player and Kinoma FreePlay. Kinoma is very demanding, but it has an absolute wealth of options.

Do you have the problem that Kinoma will not shut down properly. I find that even if I click on exit the application will minimize but not close. I have to use the task manager to shut down the app. I'm only using the free version if that makes a difference.

I had that problem, I had to kill it with MemMaid every time. Apparently this issue does not occur with the paid version, but I also wanted to use it as a media file manager and it could not recognise/display the pictures in My Storage (where I keep my wallpapers), only on the storage card, which messed up my filing system. I really liked Kinoma, but those 2 issues made it close to unusable and Kinoma support was no help, so when Resco photo viewer came along I finally uninstalled Kinoma. Still looking for a good music player...
Guest brandogg Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I'm not sure if that issues exists for me or not. I very rarely ever close the program once I have it running, and I use the Omnia's task manager for closing/switching apps most of the time.
Guest necosino Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Pocket player is really nice, but Nitrogen is getting better and better :)
Guest victaaaa Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 does anyone else find pocket player really slow?
Guest Koofteh Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Nitrogen is the best I've tried... the default theme sucks but you can get different skins. S2P is nice if you want the iPod effects but it's either slow on the Omnia or slow in general. I have it on my device if I ever want to look at Cover Flow, but otherwise I use Nitrogen. By the way, what landscape issues do you guys have with S2P? Works fine for me.
