Guest blackhorse Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Anyone else experienced this issue? Friend of mines Hero will not display the create a new google contact in the people section First of all we thought it was a software fault, so upgraded to the custom software. This didnt solve the issue. Just randomly decided to reset his device and log into my google account on his device, and do likewise with my device with his google account. The problem followed the account, and therefore is not a handset fault!?!! Cant see any options in the the google account settings that would stop this, only thing i can think of (which would be last resort) is for him to create a brand new account and scrap the faulty one!!!? Unless anyone else can think of anything?
Guest Axellink1 Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 I have this problem as well. It was working all fine before I updated to the Modaco ROM. now i don't even have the option to make a Google contact! Are we missing a file or something that was left out of the update or something? Pretty annoying since most of my contacts are on Google. Also I don't have the options to sync a particular Google contact group as well.
Guest Maartenvdv Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 I have exactly the same problem with the official ROM from HTC that was released this afternoon

Yikes looks like I'm gonna have to create them in Google contacts and then sync them. the only real problem lies when it comes to syncing my other contacts that i don't want to appear on my phone. This is slack HTC!!!

This is slack HTC!!! As i say the problem in our case isnt handset fault, its an acutal fault /setting with the google account itself As if i log into my google account on friends Hero, the option comes back, and if he logs into his account on my hero, still no option to create google contact. It seems account related and not HTC

Guest blackhorse Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Is there a way to change the Google account on the Hero to test this out? Only way to change the account i have found is to factory reset!! :)
Guest Maartenvdv Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Only way to change the account i have found is to factory reset!! :) I'm also wondering where to change google account settings. Is there anyone who has some more info on the settings that enable this feature on the Hero? I'm most particularly concerned about the fact that I cannot filter sync by group (my contacts only).

Ok My phone is fine after a full wipe. I think i have narrowed it down to two possible faults. The error I had when signing in with my Google account at the beginning or restoring my contacts with "mybackup" app. either way it works now. I think the problem is to do with the first issue since when you dont sign in with a Google Account, you get the issue I had. It wasn't until I connected my phone with my Google Account that things looked normal. The trick is to try and sign out and then sign back in again if thats possible?
Guest themadczech Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Same issue on mine too. Though I am reluctant to wipe it all. BTW, does Nandroid backup restores only data or is ROM contained as well? #Edit: Now reseted the phone to factory settings. All is fine again... just a hassle putting all the apps back on. Despite MyBackup, the market doesn't recognise present apps, so no updates. Will have to re-download, when I can be bothered. Edited September 17, 2009 by themadczech
Guest Dr Hotdog Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 It's a bit late for you guys, but there is a way to change the Google account settings on the phone without a full factory reset/wipe. Go to Settings > Application Settings > Manage Applications and tap the entry for Google Apps. Tap clear data and confirm, this will wipe your Google account settings. Then go to Settings > Data Synchronisation > Google and you'll be presented with the Google account setup dialogue that you got when you first setup the phone. Enter your new details and the phone will do a full data sync, then you're done. I did this recently when I switched from a normal GMail account to a Google Apps account with my own domain name.

Lol. Thanks :-) I can't claim credit for working it out though, I found it while googling something else and can't remember where now... I have started to write up the various tips & tricks for Android, Google etc. that I've been picking up on my new webpage though (so far only two entries...). See my profile for the link.

I was close since I was looking in the apps manager section. Very good find and bit annoying that you can't change your account so easily.

Very good find and bit annoying that you can't change your account so easily. Yeah, it's amazing that there isn't an option somewhere in settings to do this. Sure, with the deep integration of Google Apps with Android phones and the connection made between a user's identity, their data and their Google Apps account it's not something that's going to be done very often, but it's not as if no one will ever need to change their account settings. Even more amazing is that there isn't anything in the user manual (that I could find) on how to do this, the 'delete the Google Apps application' method wouldn't been too bad if it had at least been documented.
Guest themadczech Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Hi cahps, This as a great help in getting the phone ask for login details again, but... I get as a result "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." message. I've tried re-setting anything Google related in apps and speak tot eh operator, but none helped. I am just about to do factory reset, which I am not exactly pleased about :)
