mobile versions of websites

When browsing the internet on my phone occasionally I visit a site (such as this very forum!) which has a mobile version which you cannot opt out of, typically there's missing functionality and you can do less.

Is there a way to set my phone to browse full sites? Some have a mobile/full option but a lot just push you to the mobile site unless browsing from a computer. Is there a way round this?

you can deactivate it in the settings menu of the browser
