Guest dutchphoto Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I foundf this article on Mobileburn. It doesn't say anything about a Omnia 9x0 WM 6.5 upgrade. Only for some other devices. They are not gonna spend any time and effort to an "old" device. Nothing is mentioned on the Dutch Samsung website neither.Only for the below mentioned devices. They are not gonna spend any time and effort to an "old" device. Just wait and see. Don't be too dissapointed :) Samsung to offer Windows Mobile 6.5 updates to three Omnia smartphones News by Brian James Kirk on Thursday September 17, 2009. vibrant media Samsung Electronics has announced that it will bring Windows Mobile 6.5 to its Omnia II, OmniaPRO B7320, and OmniaPRO B7610 smartphones after Microsoft's new mobile operating system is released on Oct. 6. The manufacturer also plans to begin featuring the new OS on all Omnia series devices, like its new OmniaPRO B7330, a full-QWERTY candybar smartphone which will launch in October. Both the Omnia II and OmniaPRO B7320, which are touchscreen devices, are topped with Samsung's custom TouchWiz 2.0 user interface. Updates to Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released "upon availability." http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=7833 Edited September 18, 2009 by dutchphoto

Guest dutchphoto Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Not big deal, we can get it from Omnia Lite. Sure :) Ofcourse I hope I am wrong and the org. poster at samsung-omnia is right :) Edited September 18, 2009 by dutchphoto
Guest Sea-Breeze Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 we want the official core then bye bye ! cook ur own official rom !
Guest brandogg Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Technically it says "all Omnia devices" and doesn't ever mention *not* updating the i9*0 phones.
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Technically it says "all Omnia devices" and doesn't ever mention *not* updating the i9*0 phones. But it does, on MULTIPLE sources, articles read "update for *this set of phones,* all of which are Bxxxx designation, no 9x0 to speak of. Not gonna lie, it was a completely false hope to begin with, if anyone thought it would happen they have no sense of business. It makes no business sense to bring a new version of an OS to a device thats a year old. Being a year old, the owners should be expecting nothing, and therefore, the consumer base isn't down on Samsung. They do make great phones. Leaving the update to only the newer devices increases sales in some form, and that is good for business. Giving the update to the older devices means much less people are willing to adopt a newer device, hence less money. Its simple business. They know we've had our hands on 6.5 for awhile now, and know that anyone that really wants it will load it up, so why bother paying MS so much money (to in turn sell less devices) to make an update for a phone where people already have access to the new OS? Anyone that cares enough will load up a custom, so no problem anyway, we'll have ROMs that run better than the new devices have. This will not only save Sammy money, but bring more in during the long run. I have no ill-feeling towards them for leaving us out of an official update.
Guest Slappa Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Yeah, when you think about it - anyone with an i9x0 who wants 6.5 would already have some cooked version of it on their phone. Anyone else who has an i9x0 wouldn't know what 6.5 is, and would just be happy to get a new phone when the contract runs out or whatever. Not too fussed either way, I'm still on the vanilla ROM that came with my phone with a crapload of stuff over the top of it...does everything I want so happy enough :)
Guest sebolex Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Technically it says "all Omnia devices" and doesn't ever mention *not* updating the i9*0 phones. Also Omnia HD? There is Symbian, but "all Omnia devices" means "all Omnia devices" :) Edited September 20, 2009 by sebolex
Guest StarVision Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Maybe Omnia HD can...because Omnias are all ARM-based...by the way , i thought Symbian phones should be called Innova...why change to Omnia....Omnia should be WM~

Guest Darthlord Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 "Omnia HD" is not called this anymore, a long time ago they changed the name to just i8910...
Guest snoopxr6 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 They are also using the name HD icon in Australia.
Guest kav Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 just before its release, samsung changed the previous name of omnia HD to i8910 HD as it decided that it will categorize the samsung fone running on win mo as "Omnias". so the i8910HD is no longer known as the omnia HD but as i8910 HD

A year old is NOT old for generic customers especially for +450 euro's phone. Besides most operators and shops STILL sell Omnia i900 today. So there is still some stock . In fact I bought mine 2 months ago not to mention that as of yet (21/09/2009) the i8000 isn't available everywhere. So I expect an upgrade. I think the ppl who buy an i900 in September 2009 also expect a posible upgrade in October 2009. Not to mention that the i900 is better specced then Omnia Lite. If Samsung will deliver WM6.5 for that device then it shouldn't be too much trouble to do the same for i900 which is almost the same. If Samsung doesn't then this will be my last Samsung, period! In fact then I will personally make sure that I keep as many ppl from buying Samsung products as possible.
Guest bws2007 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 for the i910 omnia it might be because Verizon wireless is currently working on it with samsung they are not officaly saying anything yet but its a work in progress to get samsung on it i work for verizon i got this info from advanced tech he said hopefuly by the begining of 2010 hopefuly
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 for the i910 omnia it might be because Verizon wireless is currently working on it with samsung they are not officaly saying anything yet but its a work in progress to get samsung on it i work for verizon i got this info from advanced tech he said hopefuly by the begining of 2010 hopefuly Don't mean to be a jerk... but you do know your talking about Verizon supporting a year old device? With VZW launching a few handsets with WinMo 6.5 by the end of the year, they are not going to risk new device purchases by releasing an update of such. It would also be worse for their tech support as they'd need to know which OS people were running when they call, not just which device. If VZW launches an official 6.5 ROM, i will gladly punch myself in the face, but knowing their history, i 99% certain i'm safe here. And hell, if it happens, remind me i said this, i'll youtube it for ya too. I really wish i could have hope for VZW, but with history and their business tactics? HA.
Guest bws2007 Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 yes they are because i work for VZW and its in the works its just technical on how verizon releases new roms they get together with samsung and sit down what verizon want in it and they just have not come to a compermise yet but said by first of year hopefuly out that was as of last monday

Guest dutchphoto Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I spell it out for ya all, F.O.R.G.E.T I.T Samsung is NOT gonna spend time and money to an obsolete device. They like you to buy an new OMNIA. Samsung isn't ANY different from other manufactures. The message at Mobileburn clearly named the types which will get an upgrade.
