Guest Nhialor Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Firstly, I have a java programme that when used sends texts to people off my webtexts, through a dedicated server, this requires the use of GPRS, however, when I try to connect it won't connect through GPRS. I have downloaded the settings for my provider (Meteor - Ireland) but they don't seem to work? I want to be able to use the programmes through WiFi when available, but through GPRS when WiFi is not available. What should I have my settings as? Secondly, I started college a while ago, and free WiFi is available. When I try to get online I can only access the College homepage and it's content (http://www.ucd.ie). I was told I need to put in a proxy, which I have done in Settings, Connections, Proxy. But it's still not working. The Proxy is proxy.ucd.ie and the port is 8484 What should my port settings be like? The HTTP/SOCKS etc. etc. Thanks, Nhialor digg_bgcolor = 'transparent'; digg_window = 'new'; digg_url = 'http://www.samsung-omnia.org/index.php?topic=10830.msg59442#msg59442'; digg_title = '2 Problems that I have.'; digg_bodytext = 'Firstly, I have a java programme that when used sends texts to people off my webtexts, through a dedicated server, this requires the use of GPRS, however, when I try to connect it won't connect through GPRS. Guest aceofrazgriz Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Your college connection, if true wi-fi, shouldn't be restircted like that. they may require student identification of some sort. That proxy you listed would seem to run through the school's connection, so that won't help you hit the outside world. Can't help ya for Java, but i can say it may not automatically connect, so you may need to use another program to get the GPRS (data) connection first, then try the java apps. Wi-Fi should automatically be used over GPRS if you are connected to a viable source.
Guest Nhialor Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 yeh it uses wifi easily for java, but wont use GPRS. What programs should I get to get the gprs connection? Any idea about the proxy?
