It's the T-Mobile version of the much-acclaimed HTC Hero! I've unboxed the device in the video you see here and I will be putting the device through it's paces... if you have any questions about the device you would like to run by me, this is your chance! :) P
Guest hp1 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) If I buy one of these off ebay, unlock it and flash with your ROM, will i effectively then have a generic Hero (with a custome ROM)? Edited September 23, 2009 by hp1
Guest keef319 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Paul. I'm an Android n00b. I've been reading various threads about rooting and putting on customized ROM's etc. It's kind of got me confused, and don't want to brick. Is there a n00bie guide, listing in order what to do, etc. I have no experience in programming, never played about with phones much. Cheers. keef319
Guest jaffacake Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Paul, Do you want other members to answer posts here? Or just you? Cheers, Ben

Cheers. keef319 I used these guides, there are pretty good and work for both the G2 Touch and Hero 1st Root: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-ro...o-in-one-click/ 2nd Loading a custom Rom: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-lo...-your-htc-hero/ Use the roms provided on this website in the HTC Hero section or over at xda-development
Guest raburgess Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Hi Paul, I was wondering what your aims are with regards to testing the G2 Touch because surely it uses eactly the same rom as the HTC Hero with the exception of a few settings, ringtones and apps? One small an easy question to answer, do you know the browser homepage provided with the T-Mobile G2 Touch? I found it useful but on loading your rom I am stuck with the htc hero website. I have searched a lot of forums but can seem to find someone who will offer me an answer. Cheers

What do I need to do about partitioning the SD card, as I've seen that mentioned somewhere...?
Guest raburgess Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 You can change your homepage to whatever you want. Just load up the browser. Then press menu --> more --> settings. You are not the first person that has said this to me. i am aware of how to do this. To make myself clearer I want to know what web address the t-mobile g2 touch stock rom has for its browser homepage. For instance the MoDaCo rom has www.htc.com.
Guest raburgess Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 So in between 1 and 2, I'd need to do the nandroid backup? Yes if you require a backup of the stock rom to keep What do I need to do about partitioning the SD card, as I've seen that mentioned somewhere...? I used the guide at xda-development here, it requires Android SDK which can be download here. You may also want to refer to this guide in terms of setting up the Android SDK on your computer. Just a note when converting your ext2 partition, only go as far as ext3 as I believe some roms don't work with ext4.
Guest yosnoor Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Can you tell me whether this has the teflon coating on the body and anti fingerprint coating on the screen found on the white model?
Guest rds29 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Are you Rooting the G2 and applying the 2.2-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed ROM ? If so, can you check on Peep. Since installing the ROM I'm having a nightmare with Peep. Ant attempt to refresh the tweets results in a "The process com.htc.provider has stopped unexpectedly" error. So basically peep is useless. Anyone else seen this at all?

Guest squirreleater Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Paul - i have a G2 touch on tmobile. the screen isnt anti-finger print coated... I was told it is by the t mobile shop, and it is certainly better than my old Touch HD screen.
Guest ccsnet Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Paul - I dont think this is teflon coated..... its more rubber plus I'm sure I read some where only the white one got it. Re the 'custom Tmobile ROM'.... pah couple of ring tones, a boot screen and a link to a web site that doesnt work well does not count as a ROM imho.... as soon as my 12 months are up i'll be sticking a generic build on mine. Thanks Any Paul - Good Vid.... off to watch the Galaxy one now :) Terran
