Guest wimpie6 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I hope some of you experienced users can give me some feedback. (hope these questions aren't too stupid :-) currently I have Omnia with standard 6.1 ROM (XKHJ3) with SPB Mobile Shell 3 and in fact I can not really complain but as I'm daily reading the new forum topics at MoDaCo, I became curious how my omnia would be with a custom ROM my favourite is the latest ShokkA9 WM6.5 G-ROMs ***, ** 23047 SHKv21 I love the screencaps which are posted and from the reply's it seems to be really fast and stable so I want to try it but before I start, I would like to know the following 1. when I install a custom ROM, I guess all data in the main memory is lost, so requires reinstalling all programs on My Device (not memory card) correct? 2. does anyone knows if this ShokkA9 rom is compatible with Calender Touch? and if calendar appointments and tasks are displayed on the home screen? or do you always have to open the agenda program? 3. Although I live in Belgium, I have a ROM version from The Netherlands as I bought my Omnia on the internet. Does this Shokka Rom supports xt9 for Dutch words? or can I install this seperately? 4. I use Resco Backup for safety backups. If I would make a backup of my complete device, system dBs, registry,... (everything except storage cards). And something goes wrong during the installation of the custom rom or I experience problems with this custom rom. Can I then restore the Resco Backup and do I then have again my current configuration? (6.1 ROM (XKHJ3) with SPB Mobile Shell 3 ?) or is this not possible? if the restore is not possible can I then just reinstall a standard samsung Rom? I really hope some of you can share your experience when you installed your first ROM. thnx in advance Wim
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 1. It will require installing ALL applications because running portions of the apps saved in My Storage and Storage Card still install onto My Device (in Windows folder). That said, old ROM program files and folders will still remaing on My Storage after the upgrade. Some you may even be able to reinstall directly from these folders if a working CAB is present within said folders. All other passive files such as music or pictures will not be affected so long as they are in My Storage or Storage Card. 2. Anything that you currently have running on WM6.1 will run on 6.5. 3. Just about all custom ROMS here are by default in English (Shokka's included), unless otherwise specified. Most don't support other languages (some do Chinese), unless otherwise specified in their respective forums. You can change the regional settings to Dutch in the OS, however, this will only affect any programs that you install onto the device because it will default them to the chosen language, but it won't change the ROM to Dutch. If you really want Dutch Keyboard support, then I recommend trying SPB Keyboard because it has excellent multi-language support and built in dictionaries. 4. I personally use Sprite Backup, but I don't think it's possible to revert an older ROM. You can flash a backup image from an old ROM onto a new ROM without consequence, but again, I don't think that the former is possible because of differences in other System Files that would require the use of boot loaders that are necessary to flash a ROM image. Good Luck!!!!
