Guest emporto Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Hi; I noticed some problem last week with my Garmin mobile XT software over my Omnia. I went to a outdoor trekking where there is no GSM Network signal , I run the gps but noticed there is no signal on GPS too. So I tried a couple of things and noticed some other problems like: If I turn off the phone (while omnia is still on) GPS softwares can not find the GPS device, for example Garmin searches the GPS device over com3 com8 etc but did not find any GPS devices. So the GPS device is not work if the phone is not open. If you don't have a network signal while Telephone is open, GPS softwares can find GPS on com3 but it can not find any Satelite signals. GPS signal recieving is not working and you can not locate yourself. Also I tried these with, igo8 and route66 too but nothing changed. This is so weird, if I lost on a outdoor terrain and if there is no GSM network I am not able to find my way with GPS. Is there a solution or fix that you know about this issue ? P.S. I want to ask a second question: How can I backup my Garmin saved points before I update my omnia firmware ? Regards Emre
Guest Itlooksfast Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 There is a software that let you do that....track and even use GPS while of the GSM network. I dont know the program of the bat but just search it.
Guest emporto Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks for your answer I will seach for it Also friends who knows a software like this, please help me in this topic. Thanks
Guest pacman9889 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 At least for CDMA, I use a program called NoData (google it) that turns off your phone antenna, but I don't see any reason it shouldn't work with GSM. After that you can use BAF GPS toggle (for windows 6.1 if you are on older firmware) or CGPS (for windows 6.5) to turn your GPS on and off without the data connection. Give this a try, it has worked for me taking my phone down into Mexico without using data minutes, etc.

I am in city center now and I can not cut the GSM network signal while the phone is open. I will try BAF GPS for toggle on/off my GPS when I am out of GSM Network Signal. I have a question to all friends: Is your Omnia's GPS work and find satellite signals while the phone is on but without GSM Network Signal ? (for example you are in a trekking trip at a mountain that you don't have GSM signals) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found some article At Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS A typical A-GPS-enabled cell phone will use a data connection (internet, or other) to contact the assistance server for A-GPS information. If it also has functioning autonomous or standalone GPS, it may use standard GPS, which is sometimes slower on Time To First Fix, but does not depend on the network, thus can work beyond network range and need not pay fees for data traffic.[3] Some A-GPS devices do not have the option of falling back to standalone or autonomous GPS. Some A-GPS devices lack standalone GPS capability. They may not function at all unless the device has an active subscription to a network, and is in range of that network. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your help Edited September 28, 2009 by emporto

This is useful when the GPS goes into funny mode and gets a half lock and it thinks you are in the middle of the country driving at 10000km/h. Turn phone off the on and the GPS works again (that is phone not the whole Omnia :))
Guest emporto Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 It is weird, it must be navigate and find gps signals either with or without gsm network signal

I use to go to mountain and use Oziexplorer offroad gps software. Yestarday, the GPS stopped working whe the phone lost gsm network. The GPS doesn´t work if the phone doesn´t work. Have you solved this problem? Edited February 14, 2010 by luisgracia
Guest bib*oops Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Hi, guys! I've encountered a simillar problem on tg01. Advice: use gpsgate 2.6 together with your navigation software (For me worked for iGO8/Automapa with phone off). Give it a try and let me know! Good luck! P.S. No such problem with htc touch 2!!!! Guest uat Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Very interesting. I use BAF GPS to turn on/off my GPS. Turning off the phone radio seem to turn off GPS as well. It would not find any Satellite when the phone radio is off. I never notice this before.
