Guest fuz1987 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Hi people, i'm new to these forums so first of all, HELLO! I hope all is well with you. Now, on to the reason for this post. After searching on Google and on other forums and youtube, etc.. i can't seem to find out WHAT modaco or these custom ROMs actually do. There's nothing (that i can find) that lists the features or benefits of the MoDaCo custom ROM or what makes it different from other custom ROMs. The only thing that i can fine is that it allows you to get the firmware upgrade slightly earlier than the official release, and also that it's "rooted" meaning i can backup and run apps from the SD card? I know many if not all of you are probably laughing at me or are disappointed in my lack of knowledge about all this... but i just thought this post would also give everyone an idea of exactly what "rooting" does and the benefits/features of using the MoDaCo custom ROM on their phones. Could someone either list them for me or direct me to a post i may have overlooked which already answers my question(s)? Looking forward to your replies Thanks in advance -fuz
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Welcome to the site :) I'm a WM device person so can not help you on ROM features, but for the second part of your post there should not be anyone laughing at your lack of knowledge. The whole point of this site is to help others to learn about their devices and how to get the best from them. Remember the only stupid questions are the ones not asked :D
Guest Liam Cox Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I'm the same really. I'm interested in finding out what all the fuss is about. Is it the same sense UI that comes with the normal HTC hero or is it completely different? Thanks for any help.
Guest Amar Sirohi Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 I am interested too.... Maybe Paul or one of the senior members can elaborate
Guest mikeyxb Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 I am interested too.... Maybe Paul or one of the senior members can elaborate from what i know, and im only a week long newb but they make your phone more open to customization, for instance you need custom roms to get ubuntu and debian shell on your phone, and then even a desktop enviroment, also it helps devs to have custom roms, but for me its being able to use sd for apps and learn ubuntu shell, just a hobby really lol hope this helps
Guest Matt Taylor Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 This is my first post and I'm trying to make sense of it all too. I've never had any kind of smart phone before so this Android one will be my first introduction. I've looked all over this forum for FAQs and guides about Rooting/ROMing but cannot find any to explain what it's all about and how to get started. I'm a C# developer and looking forward to getting my teeth into it but trying to add all the postings up to something meaningful is a bit frustrating. Is there anything available? Regards, Matt

Regards, Matt For rooting, nandriod etc. look at the pinned posts by Paul for different MCR versions. But beware as an incorrect step by you may brick your device....so progress at your own risk. As far as advantages of rooting. 1. Install 3rd party apps not distributed by HTC 2. Install apps on to the SD card (to save phone memory) 3. Various improvements in issues like radio, crashes, speed etc. which are not available on standard ROM of HTC
Guest Matt Taylor Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 For rooting, nandriod etc. ...... Thanks Amar.
