Guest segaodma Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 I hate the screen shading that goes on every 5 seconds and always after locking the screen. Anytime I try to unlock it I have the screen shaded that makes it very hard to be seen especially if there is a sunlight. How can I turn the screen shading off at all?
Guest necosino Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 You mean dimming? Settings - System - Backlight - Manual - Move it all the way to the right (or wherever you want it)
Guest Root-dir Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 no I think the setting you want is in settings -> system -> Power -> Battery Power -> turn off backlight if device is not used for X seconds set it to what you wish but beware the backlight will EAT your battery. I advise you manually shut the screen off when not in use if your going to force the backlight to stay on for extended periods.
Guest segaodma Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) I tried both, but still no success and... Yes... it's called dimming. I was asking about an option to disable the dimming of the screen when you lock the touchscreen. Meaning... when I hold down the END key for more than 2 seconds, the screen to get locked, but not to get dimmed. Also to stay bright when it comes out of standby into locked condition. Settings -> System -> Backlight... that option is for the brightness of the screen while you are using the phone. It means that the light sensor detects the amount of the ambient light and automatically sets the light of the screen... but still... while you use it! On the other side the Settings -> System -> Power -> Battery Power solves the dimming while you are using the phone and letting it unused for a certain time... still won't stop the dimming when you lock the screen. I have noticed that the screen is much better viewable under sunlight when it's not dimmed... and very hard to see otherwise. Example... I'm pressing a button and making the phone go out of standby into locked. Under sunlight its dimmed and very hard to be seen. When I manage to unlock it, I noticed that the screen is much better viewable (still under sunlight). My friend has a iPhone and I noticed that it's screen is not getting dimmed when it's locked or when getting out of standby into locked position. Combined with the capacitive screen you get a WAY better viewable screen under sunlight. This has to be done somewhere in the registry of the Omnia, but I don't know where. :) Edited October 2, 2009 by segaodma

Guest segaodma Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I have used S2U2 and I didn't quite like it because the phone was slow. I just need a registry change to turn off the dimming with the original WM lock.
Guest necosino Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Oh, okay. Try out Advanced Config. There is an option somewhere to dim screen: "Always when unlocking" "Never when unlocking" and a couple others. Just set it to Never, and soft reset. :)
Guest segaodma Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) I installed Advanced config, but still no luck. There is a screen option Always Bright, but it doesn't fix the dimming when locking the screen. Another problem with S2U2 that I found when I was trying it out... lock your phone, then try sliding from the bottom to the middle... you get the task switcher on, while your phone is locked in the background. S2U2 doesn't lock the screen completely, as the WM locker does. Plus I hate that scrolling text at the bottom! Edited October 2, 2009 by segaodma
Guest necosino Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Yeah, I've never cared for S2U.. I could have sworn that there was an option for screen brightness while unlocking that took care of that though through Advanced Config (my phone was KIA so I am waiting for a replacement or I would check for you right now, lol)
Guest segaodma Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I have it installed... no such option... there is a option about the screen brightness that overrides the light sensor, but that option is for the brightness of the screen WHILE working, not while locked.

No, not that one.. I wish I could remember where it was... It was like half-way down the menus.. And I can't remember what the menu itself was called, but one of the options was something along the lines of "Always on while locked" and "never on" and a couple others.. Just go through each menu, you'll find it eventually :D New phone ordered, will be here tomorrow, so if you haven't found it by then, I'll find it for you tomorrow night :)
Guest segaodma Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) blah installed s2u2 and my phone is slow like a tractor :) Edited October 8, 2009 by segaodma
Guest necosino Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Forgot about this, lol.. In advance Config, go to Screen - Backlight Lock Level: Always Bright. Soft reset and enjoy!
Guest segaodma Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) Didn't help... I did what you said but still... holding down the End key locks the screen and it gets dimmed. :) :( Edited October 14, 2009 by segaodma
Guest segaodma Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 S2U2 does not dim the screen, but it turned my phone into a brick. And it gets unlocked more often that it used to with the WM lock.
