BIG problem with omnia and Windows 7 RTM

hey guys!

got a problem which i can't seem to figure out at ALL... basically i flashed my ROM last week, and i connected my omnia to my netbook which is running W7 RTM, but nothing happens, no connection at all. It connects via bluetooth but can only send to my netbook, i can't send files back.

when i restart my phone, it does a funny thing. My netbook instantly picks it up and starts to install the samsung MIT's USB Sync driver, but then fails. then WMDC opens and doesn't do anything. WTF! lol

it works fine with my virtual Windows XP, connects and syncs. It's just W7, all of a sudden it's stopped working and i don't know what to do about it.

ANY help will be appreciated. i really need to connect my omnia via USB, it's becoming a big hassle now.

thanks :)

The driver thing is normal; it will see the phone as a different device during startup. Wait until your phone is completely on before connecting it.

So here's what I would do:

Restart netbook

Restart Phone

Wait for netbook and phone to be COMPLETELY on

Check USB Connection on Omnia (Settings - Connection - USB). Make sure it's on Activesync

On netbook, make sure that Windows Mobile Device Center is installed and open it (so it's on the opening screen that says "manage partnerships" and w/e)

Plug Omnia directly into the netbook, not through a hub or anything like that.

Wait for 30 seconds or so, and you should see WMDC start setting up the partnership.

If for some reason this still doesn't work, change the USB Connection on the Omnia to mass storage, and then connect, to make sure the netbook can see the MyStorage or SD card as a drive. If it can't, the USB port may be bad, try a different one.

ok i tried what you said and it worked when i connected via storage.. but not activesync.

i have 3 USB ports and my netbook doesn't detect my omnia at all via activesync

any other ideas?

do i need to format my omnia or netbook? :|

I don't think that's going to do the trick.. have you made sure that you are on USB2.0 ports?

Right click on My computer - Manage, and bring up device manager. Under USB controllers, there should be at least one that says "Enhanced" if there isn't, you are on USB 1.0 or 1.1, and that might be the cause..

Glad to hear it, After a netbook restart and reconnect, WMDC should open :D

I'm running Windows 7 on my computer and WMDC never opens when I connect my device, I just have to run WMDC myself. It seems to work.

I'm on Win 7 build 16385 (I think, off the top of my head) and it opens whenever I plug in.

If you can open it and get it to communicate with the Omnia, then great :) Otherwise, idk what other advise to give, other than reinstalling WMDC like you said.

Good to know that.

1) Plug in your Omnia

2) Goto device manager

3) Goto network adatpers and uninstall the "Microsoft Windows Moile Remote Adapter" (if it says #2, also uninstall it) AFTER THIS, DISCONNECT YOUR OMNIA!

4) Uninstall WMDC Update and WMDC via Control Panel --> Software

5) Restart computer

6) Change device identification name stuff to someting else

7) Soft reset

8) Attach, wait and enjoy

I guess you could skip some steps, but this worked for me 3 times, after 3 flashes :)

ahhh awesome it's working now! the reformat did the trick, but your advice helped a lot, instead of uninstalling the network card it installed and my omnia is now connected to activesync! woop!

thanks for all your help everyone :)
