Guest mr macphisto Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, i'm new to this forum and following problems I had with my unlocked English 16GB Omnia, I would like to flash the rom to upgrade and iron out all the previous problems. I have tried updating the official way but it says I already have the latest firmware. My version is: PDA: i900XXHJ4/MSHJ1 PHONE: i900XXHI5 I have been reading other posts but am now slightly confused as to which is the best stable rom to upgrade to. I would prefer it to contain WM 6.5 if at all possible and stable. I would appreciate any help from you guys who know all about this. Also any download links would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much. Edited October 2, 2009 by mr macphisto
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Hi guys, i'm new to this forum... ...am now slightly confused as to which is the best stable rom to upgrade to... ...I would prefer it to contain WM 6.5 if at all possible and stable. ...Also any download links would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much. First, welcome aboard! :) Second, most of the custom ROMS are 6.5 and quite good, with different variants depending on the ROM chef's (hacker) choice. You'll have to read through their respective posts for complete information and contents of the ROMs. The most obvious differences are the custom ROMs typically have all the stock Samsung crap removed, therefore, memory is freed up for more useful apps. Apps such as M2D, which is a GUI ported over from HTC devices. I must warn you, that most still have their bugs, but are very negligible and hardly noticeable. Again, read through their threads and read the posts - at least the last 3-5 pages of the threads. Third, I personally use ROMS from Shokka9 and Ryzry. But don't misread this, I only use one at a time. Finally, I won't fish for you, but I'll teach you how to fish... sort of. To find the threads for the ROMs, you need to visit the ROM section of this forum. You can find the ROM section by looking at the top of the front page of the general Omnia forum. You will see that in the topics, the ROM threads dominate the front of the page and that the topics are clear as day. And... because you are new to flashing, please do the following... - Read the pinned topic about how to flash a ROM. Pinned topics are threads that are permanently pinned to the head of the ROM section of this forum. - Make sure that you visit the i900 section and NOT the i910 section. - Should you kill your phone during the flashing process, then don't hold the ROM chef responsible for it. If you read up carefully on how to properly flash, then this shouldn't happen. - There is a difference between flashing with XP and with Vista, or 7. It's very straight forward with XP. - The moment you flash anything other than an official ROM on your phone, is the moment you void your warranty. Happy Hunting!!! :D
Guest mr macphisto Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I was still curious however, as to what was, in people's opinion, the best rom available? And what is the difference between the DXHH1 & DXHH3? Is the HH3 rom newer? Thanks
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I was still curious however, as to what was, in people's opinion, the best rom available? And what is the difference between the DXHH1 & DXHH3? Is the HH3 rom newer? Thanks HH3 is an older ROM - over a year old in fact. The current release is commonly ID1, and has been for a several months now which probably means that Samsung isn't dedicating too much more time on the i900. As far as opinion goes, anyone will tell you to try this ROM, or that ROM, but it's all a matter of personal preference. They are all good! That is why I tell you to read the topics for complete info on the ROM, and then make your own choice. If you have any questions about a specific ROM, then I suggest that you ask within that ROM's thread, otherwise it'll probably be "overlooked". There are no stupid questions, only redundant ones, but don't be afraid to ask. Someone will answer, just as I've answered your first question, which wasn't the first of its kind.
