How many sattelite locks do you guys get at a time?

I ask because my accuracy as professed by google maps is pretty low +/- 20 or 30 meters. I know most GPS units have 11 channels or more, so is my number unusually low?

If I had more satellites locked, would I get better accuracy?

I've had 8 locked w/11 seeking before. Usually get 5-7 locks though.

I have nine and I am located in Cape Town South Africa. I'm sure the more satellites the merrier (or less lost?). :)
