Guest bull3t4u Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) Hello guys, I'm writing on this Omnia forum because I need your help. I lost my omnia 8gb few days ago :) phoned up my network and reported to police. I made a claim on my phone insurance but they told me I need a receipt of purchase but I dont have it anymore cos my Omnia was over one and half year old. I told them I have a original box with IMEI numbers, accessories, etc to proof it but thats not enought, all they want is receipt. Now, I need a receipt of purchase(or)copy without IMEI number, if someone could help me please send me a PM. I pay for it. Thank you. Edited March 3, 2016 by bull3t4u
Guest Koofteh Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 What good is a recipet without an IMEI or serial number on it? Also where do you even live? Your phone insurance will take a receipt from anywhere in the world? At any rate, I personally would stay away from insurance fraud but that's just me.
Guest jonboyuk Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I couldn't agree more with Koofteh...although something about your question doesn't add up. Where did you buy it from in the first place? You can always ask a shop for a copy of the receipt if you pay them (call their head office though). I would firmly suggest that no one on here starts issuing bull3t4u with a copy of their receipt. It *is* fraudulent!
Guest DeeinSouthAfrica Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) I think that Bull3t4u wants to write in his own IMEI number and submit it to his insurance. This is not legal. However, let's not be too harsh without knowing all the facts. There are some dealers who are quite happy to just issue a receipt without the IMEI number written on. It is up to us, the consumer, to protect our own backsides. Always make sure one has a proper receipt. If buying 2nd hand through a shop, take a buddy with who can phone the cellular provider and quote the IMEI number. If it is stolen (and someone has reported it as such) the phone will be blocked. Your buddy also has a second role. He can sign a sworn affidavit that you did, indeed, buy your phone from a reputable dealer but did not obtain the correct receipt. Most insurance companies are quite happy with such sworn affidavits. If you bought it 2nd hand through the newspaper you have little or no chance of claiming insurance, so be warned. Guest bull3t4u Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) Thanks for your reply guys. I don't want to do anything illegal. I lost my phone and I can't make a claim because I don't have a receipt of purchase. I told them I lost it but I will try to find it. In fact, I lied because I bought it from gumtree (second hand) over year ago. Also, I have a original box and I can proof it that belongs to the phone I lost as it has the same IMEI number on the box. Phone was Vodafone network, maybe they have any receipt? Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 As it was brought secondhand then you need to inform the insurance company of this and they may advise you on a different course of action for claiming on the lost device. Otherwise trying to pass a claim with a reciept is fraud and as you would be trying to pas the lost secondhand device as new. You claim in your last post you do not want to do anything ilegal so asking for a reciept is not an option for you.
