Is anybody here can confirm that my Samsung I900 is ok?

As I bought it form oversea it’s came with no wall charger and the only way to charge it is with USB,

The problem is if my phone is switched off and plugged in to the PC it’s never charge , I have to switch it on to start charging, which mean I have to leave it on all night which I wouldn’t like as may somebody call me late ,

Are all Samsung I900 the same or just mine?

thanks

It's the same for all Omnias - I just tried mine to make sure and nothing happens when I plug it in.

It's not too bad though, I remember on the very first Omnia ROM you couldn't charge via USB at all. I was so panicked when I bought my phone, because it didn't have a North American charger and I had bought it thinking I could just charge via the computer. Thankfully the new ROM was already out and I just had to flash (too bad my battery was dead, LOL... I still had to buy an adapter).

It's not the same for all in respect of the wall charger. I have two Omnia's, both which were supplied with a wall charger and a usb cable.

USB provides very little power in the way of volts/amp and thus it takes an age for the Omnia to charge. So if you're charging it from a PC make sure of a few things to reduce power consumption:

- If you need the phone to be accessible, turn off bluetooth, wifi and switch the screen off

- If as you say you want it so it's effectively off so people can't call you, just put it into 'flight mode'. In this respect none of the outgoing/incoming services will be available and it will charge quicker as consumption is reduced.

- Also note that you will never see the green light when charging from USB, although it should still report 100% charge after a good night charge.

If I were you I'd buy a wall adapter from ebay.

I think you misunderstood. He is asking if it's normal that his phone won't charge via USB when the device is powered off and I confirmed for him that that is indeed normal - I haven't had any phone that charged via the computer while it was off.

Obviously it's not normal to get a phone without a wall charger, I guess the OP bought a second hand Omnia and got no wall adapter with it.

That's not right mate, if you bought it new it should have a wall charger. It might not be compatible with your outlets but it should have one - I'd ask the seller before buying a charger yourself.

On the chargers - Samsung has two sizes for the all-in-one plug. The Omnia uses the one that is a little bigger. (I know because my wife has a small Samsung phone with the smaller plug, so we can't share chargers.)

On the extra battery - I always like to have an extra battery for my devices. I have found out the hard way that the cheap, off-brand Omnia batteries do not hold a charge for very long. You are better off with the Samsung brand, even if more expensive.

Also don't forget screen protector sheet for sure and maybe car charger.

IMHO,

Ron...
