Hay, ive just had to return my iphone because the gps packed up!!! Tried numerous resets!!! uninstalls etc!!! was on the phone for 2 HOURS solid to apple as they gave me various things to try, but all to no joy. So they gave me a new one.

The tg01 does get a right hammering on this site sometimes but its way quicker, and set up right, IS a better phone. Yeah it can be annoying sometimes but i just spent a week in the spanish mountains. Access to and from our villa was simply too dangerous to drive on unless major emergencies, so i spent far too much time poolside playing on my tg01 and it never let me down ONCE. (All be it i was never far from a charger and had a set of headphones to hear what was going on!!! well, had to have one dig i guess!!!)

the volume is too low!

signal quality on orange is crap - in my area anyway!

banging/popping noises on 3g!

memory card deletes my files!

weird characters appear on memory card from nowhere!

memory card is slow to copy to and crashes through activesync/device centre!

GPS port on GPD9 requires you to purchase GPS gate to use copilot or tomtom!

Battery has no life!

no stylus holder!

no 3.5mm headphone jack!

only 183mb ram!

stuck with wm6.1 until who knows!

but i still love it!

The TG01 wasn't supposed to come out with winmo 6.1 - MS dicking about meant they had to release with it but 6.5 or "windows phone" as they want to call it will really make this an iPhone beater!

as for the points below - I think you got a duff handset!

the volume is too low! - Not on mine it's not,

signal quality on orange is crap - in my area anyway! - thats a network thing, Orange in London is as fast as broadband

banging/popping noises on 3g! - yeah... somethings not right with your phone, crystal clear quality here

memory card deletes my files! - again, why would you think this normal? never had it

weird characters appear on memory card from nowhere! - see above!

memory card is slow to copy to and crashes through activesync/device centre! - and again your memory card/phone must be seriously F'ed

GPS port on GPD9 requires you to purchase GPS gate to use copilot or tomtom! - You can change the ports you know? but with Orange Maps/Google Maps you don't need other satnavs and those 2 work great.

Battery has no life! - try scaling the settings of everything back if you leave it on over night, also, turn down screen brightness, I have mine at 1/4 of full and it's very bright - full brightness is eye watering!

no stylus holder! - you don't need a stylus, you have 10 of them, one attached to the end of every finger, drink milk... but on a 4.1" screen you can just use fingers 90% of the time.

no 3.5mm headphone jack! - true... but the adapters not so bad and the device is thinner than a 3.5mil jack anyway!

only 183mb ram! - 256mb of ram, but the OS is using some obviously! check "running" aps, most take 10kb to 1mb... 183 is plenty with a 1ghz chip!

stuck with wm6.1 until who knows! - well till october if your in the UK - which it now is, 6.5/"phone" here we come.

I recomend checking out Point UI and Point Sense! it's the full HTC interface on your TG01 - makes it emensely useable and it's free!

Ill agree with you on two things. The volume is too low. And battery life sucks. I have mine set up on fastest internet settings and half brightness, in my opinion anything less is a waste. But obviously i accept limited battery life and charge once or twice a day. These are the only things i can agree on. I get full hsdpa signal at home and work (kent and london). with 4 bars of gsm. Compared to edge on my iphone and one bar! Furthermore i get all 3 bars of wifi at home and work, but since iphones update to 3.1 i get only 2 bars reception most of the time. plus the battery life has dropped since the update on iphone to the same level as that of tg01! And please dont talk to me about gps! Installing copilot on my 3gs ruined the phone! gps on iphone is rank!!! google maps, yeah right, it updates like once every ten minutes!! orange maps is better than copilot on iphone.

Could you share how you have run PointUI and PointSense for free? I tried it and I cannot change theme to pointsense in my version from the website.

I'll add my agreement here as well!

I think the volume is better in the WM6.5 Orange build, but it wasn't bad for me in the WM6.1 version.

Battery life is just not good enough at present unless you can do a quick top-up during the day. Processor power seems to make little difference but screen brightness does. WiFi visibly suck out the power level :)

GPS is technically correct on a GPD port, but some poorly designed programs (TomTom and VisualIT Tube) don't recognise those ports. You can use the External GPS settings to move the program port to COM4 (which HTC use) or any other relevant port. Not tried TomTom but VisualIT and GoogleMaps both see that port OK. CoPilot 8 and iGo8 can see any of the ports.

The SD card corruption issue is generic to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset- it has been reported in 3 different makes. Hopefully the new WM6.5 builds will rectify this. A colleague with a Leo/HD2 hasn't had the same issue and that was WM6.5 from the start.

Once the SD card is corrupted and a soft reset didn't clear it, it MUST be formatted otherwise errors will continue. I've never seen any problem with speed of access of the SD card.

Stylus? I've used mine twice since I bought it in July. A couple of programs need one, but for the most part a finger is enough.

3.5mm headphone socket? I agree. Until someone develops a splitter this is a real nuisance.

250MB of RAM is a huge amount, even in these times. The video chip takes 64MB and the OS / Today Plug-ins a chunk more, but after a soft reset I still have 80MB free. Some current devices start off with less than that before loading the OS, and end up with less than 20MB free. Only one device has more than this (the HTC HD2) and it hasn't been released yet!

I'm happy for the moment but still like the better overall package of the HD2 :(

I downloaded Point UI Home2 from their website, it's free but you do get a message to upgrade (to pro version) once after you boot your handset, just hit cancel and it dosn't bug you again (till you start the phone again)

once Point UI Home 2 is running go here http://community.pointui.com/topic/suite-v...v2-make-it-mine

and follow their instructions.

I've done it twice now (orange took back my first handset) and it's worked both times, I'll attach a pic. if you have trouble try a clean install of Point UI and reboot lots.

And on the battery issues:

I have the power settings set to custom where I turn everything up to full except screen brightness, and that to just over 1/4 (plenty bright enough even outside in summer sunshine) and my phone will be at about 40-60% at the end of the day - where I leave it to charge over night.

not being constantly connected to mail/FB/Twitter etc will help. My mail updates every hour, weather app every 2, and FB/Twitter/rest of the net only when I run the app.

To improve battery life, when you first get a li-ion battery, charge it to full and let it fully discharge, repeat a few times and then use as is conveniant, letting the battery compleatly drain and recharge at least once every 2 weeks at least. works for me at least.

Thank you very much, I will try again :)

Regarding the battery, i let my battery drain fully from initial start up. (without playing with it, just leave it on.)

Then once its fully empty fully charge overnight. This way most of the cells are alive and well. Just plugging the charger in from new

kills many of the cells that are in the battery from new.

I can get a full 12 hours use on standby from the moment i get the "!" warning.

This is the same on any battery. But still the tg01 battery is not good.

ok we can all live with these issues sure, BUT!

these banging noises are intolerable - please can people admit they are having these problems?

i have had FOUR tg01's with the same problem - and other posts on here confirm i am not the only one - chances are these people are not in the same coverage hole as me so it shouldn't be a network issue?

what else can it be?

any ideas - i have tried all different power settings etc.

ive had no popping or banging noises on my phone at all. I very occasionally get like a cut out on the

volume whilst listening to people talk. It lasts a nanoo second and happens every 5 minutes or so and will continue to do so for the remainder of that call. but it rarely happens on the calls i make or recieve and when i think about it, and off the top of my head i cant remember the last time it done this even. But no banging or popping on my phone.

That's not actually the best pattern for Li Ion or Li Polymer batteries. They do need about 5-10 charge/discharge cycles when new to reach their full capacity, but after that they should be trickle charged as often as possible via USB or wall charger, then fully charged with a wall charger once a week (but not discharged first); a full discharge/recharge about once every 3 months will reset the battery charge sensing circuit inside the battery and on the device, but shouldn't be done more often than that or the battery life will be shortened.

Ooooh! the precious miliamp-hours! will be grabbing one of those I think!

also: I didn't know about discharging from new first, all the info booklets tell you to charge it fully first. Interesting... both the new phones I've had have both had exactly 60% charge out the box, I wonder how much use the batteries get before they even get to us?

yeah i like the look of the 1300mAh battery, but kinda put off by the fact it says possible delays, Does that mean it will never arrive and ill lose my money? ill wait till others try it first.

Regarding discharging the battery first its what i was told to do and nothing scientific that ive proved anyway, only the guy is very clever about electronics and my batterys hold up longer than my wifes over the years.

I was told in an ideal world when a consumer first gets a new battery, it will be flat. But they never are. Usually there 1/4 to 1/2 full. SLOWLY, but fully draining the battery on that initial start up keeps most of that half alive. charging straight away is good for the empty half of the battery, but bad for the half that has charge in it already. It was something like waking cells up or activating them first and not shocking them to death. How scientific this is god knows, but i do know over the years my wife and i have shared the same makes of phone, if in the early hours of the morning a phone starts to bleep to say low battery, if its her phone i know it will be dead in a minute or two. If its my phone i would have to get up out of bed and turn it off because if i didnt it would bleep all night. My mrs has always stuck to doing what it says in the manuel.

IF YOU TRY TO BLOW REALLY HARD WITH YOUR MOUTH INTO THE MICROPHONE OF THE TG01 - JUST UNDER THE HOME BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM WHERE THERE IS A LITTLE RECTANGULAR HOLE.

THIS SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS LISTED

BLOW CONSISTENTLY AND REPEATEDLY BETWEEN 5-10 TIMES TO CLEAN IT OUT PROPERLY.

NO MORE ISSUES
