startup and shutdown screens and animations

is there any program out that lets you control these things without having to physically go in and overwrite files? I'm trying to make a simple phone for the girlfriend.

It's pretty simple to just over write them :) Just use a program like Resco File Explorer to do it. Then if you want to restore the originals, just delete them, and they'll be restored after a soft reset.
