Guest Emcee86 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Hi Paul, or anyone else, Quite new on this rooting thing, but I figured it out and yesterday installed your MoDaCo 2.5.1 ROM, works great thnks! I also installed the new Radio, the FU-version. Updated it from the EU-version. Now I don't know if it's the new ROM or Radio or something else, but I downloaded TasKiller to make sure no programs were running, since WiFi-tether wouldn't shut down ( common problem ? ) and shut most things down. This morning I overslept, my alarm didnt go off cause the battery was depleted! And when I went to sleep, about 7 hours before that, it was at 70 %! So any tips for this? Maybe set the Radio back? Thnks very much! Mark
Guest Zeppu Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I highly recommend limiting the connection to 2G if you're not listening to podcasts or youtube etc... You can get a few apps from the Market to put a shortcut for that on your homescreen. I usually turn 3G only for Google Listen and then turn it off after I'm done.
Guest kosmiq Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Don't recognize this problem. I have 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth running all the time and my battery holds for about two days if I don't use the phone too much. Could it be searching for 3G a lot if you're in an area where the signal isn't good enough so it has to search for it a lot or something like that?
Guest Emcee86 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Thnx for your replies! No everything was off, last night I just finished installing the new ROM and new Radio and then shut almost everything down using TasKiller. Phone was 70% full, 7 hours later, completely depleted! With the SpareParts app I could see that the android.process.acore had used a really big amount of battery.. so maybe it was just a one time? Today it went from 55% to 37% in 5 hours, with 3 calls, bit texting and just checking the phone, don't know if that's normal? Cheers!
Guest kosmiq Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) My current batterystatus after the following usage during the day is at 50% atm: GPS is always off, Wifi is almost always on, BT is always on and I never turn of 3G. Was charged to 100% at about 07:30 this morning when I went to work. Listened to music while going to work, some 30mins-ish with BT headset. Wifi off, GPS off. Also have the official facebook app running at all times, used it for a few mins while going to work. At work means Wifi on, BT still on to keep the headset connected but it's not really being used. Some SMS at work, two emails read and then some surfing market and using the browser while in the can (gotta do something right? :) ). Also some facebooking through the official app, mostly just checking updates and one status update. Used the calendar to check next week and adding a new schedule. Listened to music via BT headset for about 20mins while doing some shopping after work, Wifi still activated even though outside any connected spot. Left the phone in the locker with BT, Wifi on while going to the gym. After that listened to more music, made a phonecall that lasted about 30mins, BT headset ran out of battery. Phone still has Wifi and BT on. Checked the mail, sent some sms, checked facebook while ordering food and went home. More SMS sent during the afternoon, one email sent and tried to call a friend who didn't pick up. That's pretty much it so 50% left now as stated above. The time is now 00:05 and I have not connected it to anything that charges the battery since 07.30 this morning. Now you know how my Hero battery holds up plus everything I do on a usual day. BT and Wifi never turned off since I turned Wifi off when I arrived at work. Oh and btw, phonestats: Hero MoDaCo 2.5.1 with latest Radio (the FU one) with 8gb Class 6 SD-card partitioned with SWAP, EXT3 for apps and FAT32. Not using more then 4gb on the SD-card and I am checking the phone from time to time to see if there's any missed e-mail, sms or whatever so there is more usage than stated above. I'm quite happy with the battery time as I know it'll hold for two days if I do not do too much on it. Edited October 12, 2009 by kosmiq
Guest Emcee86 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Thnx kosmiq, good post, I'm gonna check my usage and see how it holds up, cheers.
Guest Musicmannetje Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I too noticed the shortened battery life with the new 2.5.1 (enhanced) update. But today, starting with a full loaded battery this morning, about 5 hours later only 30% is left. I only made one phonecall for about 10 minutes so no extensive use. One thing I found to be somewhat weird is that the phone was over 30 degrees C. Pretty hot for a device which isn't used...

Haven't really noticed any difference going from 2.2 to 2.5.1 other than the speed of course. Mine's at 86% now and I've used facebook, talked in it for a few mins, listened to music via BT headset for ~25mins and Wifi + BT has been on at all times. About 5 hours since I removed it from the charger.
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I'm still on 2.2 (probably get around to 2.5.1 at the weekend) My impression of the battery is that it's not great, but this thread's had me watching it to see what it's actually like... Mine was 100% at 06:30. At home with GPRS - A few emails (less than a dozen) through Exchange "As Items Arrive" and Google, with a couple of manual sync's for instant updates. 30+ mins of surfing. 2x Site Alert widgets updating hourly. HTC Clock & Weather and Calendar widgets. WiFi and BT both off all the time. At work with HSDPA - 15+ mins of Solitaire. No calls today for some reason [checks its working/]. About 6 hours later I'm at 90%. That's actually much better than it *feels* like it's behaving.
