Guest razerbug Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 (edited) So the Orange UK 6.5 upgrade worked without a hitch, everything is friendlier, faster, and more impressive. However... How do you customise the Today menu? (the one you get when you hit start) I know you can more items about but how do you delete them? for instance I will never have a use for "MSN money" etc and these just get in the way. 2nd problem: I can't seem to find a way to display the battery meter in the title bar. new 3rd problem: can you disable the screen lock-slide thing? the TG01 has a lock button on the side I don't need a second unlock check new 4th problem: (this is becoming quite the list) - how do you switch the time to display in proper 12 hour am/pm mode instead of 24h mode? These seem like trivial little things, anyone know fixes? Cheers! Edited October 14, 2009 by razerbug
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Doesn't the Start Menu just pick up what's in the Programs menu? Use File Explorer to go to Windows/Start Menu/Programs then either delete, or (safer option!) cut/paste those you don't want to a safe location. It is annoying that you can't rearrange the Start items, but if you Tap/Hold any icon there is an option to move it to the top. I've actually created a new folder within Windows/Start Menu/Programs called Favourites, then copied my most used links into that. Going back to the Start Menu, I've then moved this folder to the top, so most of my apps are now only 2 presses away! Battery Meter: No idea! Clock- go into Start/Settings/System/Regional Settings and hit the Time tab. In the Time Style box, use the arrows to find/select hh.mm.ss (04.15) or h.mm.ss (4.15) I don't know about the Slide Lock, but hasn't this new ROM done away with the Volume button 'Lock' feature and replaced its function with 'Screen Rotate' (as long as automatic rotate is turned off)?

Spanish people still under WM 6.1.... :) Best Regards

Good suggestion on the start menu - cleaned it up a little. Thanks. and I knew I'd changed the time settings before but couldn't remember where. as for the power/lock key, no this still locks and unlocks the device - and faster than it used to, but now you have to then slide the screen as well. I don't know about auto rotate, can't imagine why you would turn it off.
Guest bsnguy Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 ... I don't know about auto rotate, can't imagine why you would turn it off. I have four TG01s and all are the same... it's both too sensitive and not sensitive enough. My typical scenario is that I tip the phone a bit to get rid of some glare and the screen rotates (too sensitive). Then I rotate into that orientation, pause a moment, and rotate back to the way I wanted it and... nothing, no rotation (not sensitive enough). So what's a guy to do? The device is not smarter than me, so I turned off the smarts so I could control it. Now it works perfectly and never guesses wrong!

Hey dude :) Well glad that most of ur issues got answered, but as for the two that didnt, about the slide to unlock...go to Settings > Lock > Display tab > and change it from Windows Default - to - Windows Classic > Soft Reset and your slide to unlock has now been disabled.... As for the clock being in the task bar (which is annoying as all he!! for me too)...download a regestry editor, once you have one install on your phone go to HKLM (Local Machine) > Software > Microsoft > Shell > TaskBar > and make sure that BOTH ConsistentClockOrBattery and LimitedClock are BOTH set to "1" > Soft Reset, and you no longer have the clock displayed in the task bar and only have the Battery Indicator :( Hope this helps ;)

I take it back :( that scared the life out of me... if you chose "classic" lock - it dosn't remove the 2nd layer of unlock on the device, but it replaces the unlock slide with the word unlock at the very bottom of the device in small letters, which made me think my device had totally frozen up as the touch screen wasn't responding! ;) how do you remove the locking all together so you only have to push the button on the side to lock/unlock like it was in 6.1?! You sir are a gentlemen and a saint Cheers for the lock help, that was REALLY annoying me! why do they call it "windows classic / default" instead of "show slide lock/ don't" bloody microsoft much as I don't hate them (as is fashionable) they do annoy me at times! I'll see how long the battery thing takes to really get on my nerves before I go dicking around in the registry, I don't like doing that on my PC let along on my PHONE of all things... sigh... PS: why do people sensor the word "hell" it's not a swear word, thats the 4th time I've seen it on these boards...?) Edited October 15, 2009 by razerbug
Guest elite-fusion Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 HELL HELL HELL HELL There you go, made up for all 4 times haha :) Sorry the Lock solution didnt help you, as for the registry digging isnt that bad, you can always revert back to the way it was, it just changing one string's value, thats it. i changed it on mine, perfectly fine now =D
Guest Neil5459 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 To stop the 'Slide to Lock' screen appearing at power-on, use File Explorer to go to Windows/Startup and remove the 'Autokeylock.lnk' file (in fact it's safer to copy it somewhere like My Documents first, in case you want it back!)

Guest Neil5459 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Hey Neil, can you confirm this for sure? Certainly confirmed on mine- I've moved the file elsewhere for safe keeping, done a soft reset and no more Slide to Unlock screen :)
Guest pauldyson1uk Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Certainly confirmed on mine- I've moved the file elsewhere for safe keeping, done a soft reset and no more Slide to Unlock screen :) Cheers for that ,it was simple and works a treat , why would you want to unlock your phone twice?
Guest xdalover Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) Certainly confirmed on mine- I've moved the file elsewhere for safe keeping, done a soft reset and no more Slide to Unlock screen :) I suppose that you can rename Autokeylock.lnk as Autokeylock.lnk.old (for instance) and should be the same, isn't it? On the other hand, Is there any way to come back to WM 6.1 if WM 6.5 doesn't like us? Cordially Edited October 16, 2009 by xdalover
Guest dunbad Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Hi With 6.1 i had 72meg of internal memory available with all my programs downloaded. (spb shell, keyboard, wireles monitor, opera mini, 9.7, facebook, youtbe and myplayer). That was with all programs closed. After a hard reset i have 81 meg of internal memory on 6.5. however, this sinks to 61 meg, without touching the phone, just leaving it for 48 hours from the reset! hence much slower! anyone know whats going on?
Guest dunbad Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Just to be clear. the memory just drops without downloading any programs or touching thephone. All i done was watch the memory fall? This ocured because i noticed the phone slow down a fair bit, and it was then i noticed the memory fall to 50 meg with my programs downloaded.? With this reduced meg my phone is now a fair bit slower browsing the net, and worringly my iphone is the faster phone. Does this sound right? on 6.1 my phone never fel below 70 meg with the rubish removed, and my programs instaled? aded?

I think you would need to remove all added programs, then see if it still happened. If OK, then add them back one at a time and see which one causes it. I didn't use most of the apps you list, and I had no memory leaks, so can't help more than that. My money would be on Woreless Monitor or Opera 9.7 though :)
Guest dunbad Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Thanks neil. I have nothing installed on m phone at the moment. . Yet its showing 60.1 meg. That is with the junk removed. (the 2 games, and the help video). then i just left the phone alone without building up any cach, browsing or anything else. with my progams installed it fell to 50 meg! could it still be leaking from standard? what sort of memory should i be seeing with 6.5?

Cordially you can't do that as you can't see/edit the file extensions (well not via the phone at least) moving it has done the job wonderfully however! Cheers!

Are you talking about Storage Memory or Program Memory? Removing the games and video will recover about 30MB of Storage Memory, leaving around 220MB free storage before installing any user programs. This should only reduce when you add programs or files, or when you use a Browser which caches its data. Program Memory is the same as a PCs RAM and you should start with about 75-80MB after a soft reset. The more programs you have running in the background, the less memory will be free. One massive culprit here is Media Player which grabs huge amounts of memory while running, or open but hidden. If you see this memory reducing, oipen Task Manager and see which programs are running, then switch to Processes and look at the memory allocation.
Guest xdalover Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 you can't do that as you can't see/edit the file extensions (well not via the phone at least) moving it has done the job wonderfully however! Cheers! You can with Resco File Explorer, for instance...
Guest dunbad Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Hi, im talking about program memory. From a hard reset, my memory shows 80 meg, But then it just falls over a period of 48hours to 60.1 meg with no programs running in the background and nothing installed. only task manager which i use to double check nothing is running, i then close that down and then i check program memory which is when i see 60 meg? My program memory just falls and i loose speed. For instance, ive just checked with IE shown as running, my program memory is 42! meg
Guest Neil5459 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 You should not be losing any speed with even 42MB free. Some devices start with 40MB free :) If you close IE and wait about 5 minutes, how much memory do you recover? If it gets down to 15MB, you'd then see some slowdowns becasue Windows would start managing the memory allocation.
Guest dunbad Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 ok i see. I was comparing browser speeds under 6.1 and 6.5. I have a slow down on 6.5 and noticed a drop in ram and thought that might be the culprit. With no programs running in the background, i drop to 60 meg On 6.1 i had 72. But on 6.5 i have a gradual drop over a period of time. after a soft reset it shows 80 meg, but it just slides downwards gradually. I never had this gradual drop on 6.1. So does 60meg seem right for 6.5?
Guest Neil5459 Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 TBH I can't remember, and as I mentioned I don't have the TG01 anymore to test it. Mine always started with around 75MB free but I didn't do any further checking! WM6.5 does use more resources than WM6.1 though.
