Guest jamesie Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 (edited) Hi flashing your Omnia is possible in windows 7 XP mode and is really easy to do - below is a modified version of sectors tutorial for standard XP with a few additional steps (In bold) required to flash in windows 7 XP mode Flashing in windows 7 /XP mode 1. Install Windows XP mode for free if you have windows 7 from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx (once) 2. start virtual XP in full screen mode 3. Install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 (first time use only) 4. Install the Samsung Modem Driver XP (first time use only) 5. Reboot the virtual XP to full screen 6. After these first steps try to disconnect your Omnia from USB and connect it back on using the "Attach i900" in the USB menu at the top of full screen virtual XP mode. Repeat it 1-2 times so the PC can recognize the phone. It is advised to reboot your virtual XP back to full screen. (first time use only) 7. Make sure that you have a backup of all your important stuff (contacts, pictures etc). 8. Switch OFF the phone by holding the Power button for ~5 seconds. 9. Run the updater. (Works the same way for Original or Cooked ROMs) 10. Switch ON the phone again by holding the Power button. 11. Press "attach i900" in the USB menu at top of full screen virtual XP when you hear device attached sound 12. Press START on the updater and your phone will start flashing. Do not move your phone or the USB wire as it might fail during flashing 13. after a few seconds the phone reboots - Press "attach i900" in the usb menu at top of full screen virtual XP when you hear device attached sound and flashing will continue. 14. Wait until the updater shows JOB DONE! DO NOT DISCONNECT BEFORE. 15. Disconnect your phone. 16. Leave the phone to reboot 2 times, calibrate screen and finish the start-up procedure. 17. Enjoy the new firmware. pretty straight forwards, I hope this helps, but as always flashing is risky if not done properly and i don't accept responsibility for mishaps Edited October 14, 2009 by jamesie

Guest onecino Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There is an easier method in Win7. No need to use XP mode. Just download GRand Prix i900_1.6.4 for Vista and i900_EXEcutor_2.0. and any custom ROM you like. I did this yesterday with Sector's ROM and works fine.

Guest jamesie Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 If you have windows 7, then you may as well install XP mode - it's free and easy to use. I think it's the full OS - at least it's pretty full featured. Most of the steps i posted are one time only (installing Xp mode, active sync, samsung drivers). Virtual XP mode boots in under 20 seconds on my win 7 machine and the omnia updaters run without issue if you remember to use the attach USB device button. I also use XP mode for other non vista/win7 compatabe apps like updating my sat nav - so it's really useful.
Guest Imlal Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Having a bit of an issue. I power off the device. Run the updater. Power on the device hit attach USB as fast as possible and the updater says a couple of times that it can't find the PDA. Works fine updating in WMware though. //Jimmy
Guest Guiry Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 ;) ;) :( :) :( WOW I finally could flash it with WIN 7, 10 minutes ago... Guest onecino Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Attention! The author of this description is not liable for any damages arising from the proceedings according to this guide. You are doing EVERYTHING AT YOUR OWN RISK. Dismantle the ROM file with i900_EXEcutor_2.0 (attached) The process of flashing 1. GrandPrix run the program, the file is USDL_GrandPrix_v1.6.4_VISTA.exe. (attached) The left side of the window at the top of the site where the inscription "Select a profile" mark: GRANDPRIX LV IMAGE 2. Now we need to load the files ROM. Click on the button LOADER loader and find the file with the extension nb0. Then hit the button and choose the PDA image file system. When we do that on the right side of the window should appear subtitles Calculating file parameters (DiskImage ).... Calculating file parameters (DiskImage) Done! Now click the button CSC and load a file with a CSC. Next click the PHONE - must be careful here and upload only newer files "radio" from those that we have currently uploaded on our PDAs. If the radio in the new ROM is the same as you currently have or older do not charge PHONE file, because you can permanently damage your PDA! 3. Now connect the phone via a USB cable and click the button DETECT. At the top of the update progress bar appears on "Waiting for the Device". We do then restart by pressing the reset button on the Omnia. 4. After a reboot, we have no influence on anything and wait until the process ends successfully. ALL CREDIT TO JAVMAN @ PDACLUB.PL I only tested it at Windows 7 and it happened to work :) and translated this tutorial.GRand_Prix_i900_1.6.4.rari900_EXEcutor_2.0.zip
Guest jamesie Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Hi Initial, if you are having difficulty attaching the phone after resetting it, check whether active sync in XP mode can see the phone, if not the drivers are not fullly installed - just use windows update in xp mode. if you are still having issue a step i used to use was to disable USB connections in Windows mobile device center on the host/windows 7 system before satrting to use XP mode with my phone. I no longer do this as I find XP mode works fine with my hardware, but it might help if you are struggling to connect.
Guest kennnn Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 @ jamesie : how safe is this method ? can you attach the require files mentioned in step no 4 .... "Attach i900" this will appear only after i install the samsung modem driver xp right ? where is the option to reboot to full screen ? does virtual xp work as a dual boot or what? point no 9 saysrun the updater are you talking about the microsoft active sync updater wheres the part where you have not explained how to load the rom into the updater?... sorry for all these dumb question . but thanks in advance

Guest Sacrin Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I get "No PDA Device Found ... close device timeout--" x5 then "PDA Device not found." Followed the instructions precisely... pretty frustrating.
Guest djsolidsnake86 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 can't update the phone rom with grandprix, i have a countdown on grandprix!
Guest jamesie Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 you need to make sure active sync is working in XP mode, this verifies all the correct drivers are installled. you only need to do this the first time you use Xp mode, after that it updates without issue
Guest Sacrin Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 you need to make sure active sync is working in XP mode, this verifies all the correct drivers are installled. you only need to do this the first time you use Xp mode, after that it updates without issue If this was a response to me - active sync is working in XP mode. I turn my phone on, with the ROM program open on my computer, the program tells me the phone can't be found, the phone turns on normally, and then active sync connects to the phone. It does this every time.
Guest Maxwell Newton Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) I cant get past step 6... the virtual xp machine wont see my phone when i attach it :) ive installed the drivers but still no luck, any ideas? EDIT: Well i never got active sync to work but was still able to get the .exe thingy to see the phone in VM (win7 64bit) just by being really quick on attaching the i908 when the phone starts. All flashed now, thank you very much!!! Max Edited November 9, 2009 by Maxwell Newton
Guest begbie87 Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Done this the other day, on vista. Used VMWARE instead, awesome bit of software!

When we close the phone the xp mode doesn't recognize it anymore. When we open it, it takes too much to recognize it and the mobile starts. We need a way to recognize usb immediately to xp mode. In vmware there is that choice but unfortunately it doesn't work well in my pc.
Guest jamesie Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 judging from some of the comments it does seem this may be hardware dependent. you do have to be fast when pressing the attach i900 in the usb menu, I do it as soon as hear the new device attached sound. but on my system i have about 8 seconds to do this before the phone boots in the normal way. I flash my phone weekly using the above method, so can assure you it does work and for me is pretty straight forwards - this does not mean that it will work for everyone though.
Guest Ianovici Ionel Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Hi I have a big problem with my Omnia i900 I tried to flash it because it had problems with the ROM (only the WM interface started and then nothing). While flashing it stoped at 11% because of the windows 7(the system has problems). After i opened again the phone it only showed me the logo and nothing else. Only Samsung Omnia on the screen, no more WM interface. Now when i try to flash again it stops at different values like 50% or 32% but never flash it to the end. What can i do? How can i fix this? Thank you
