Hi all,

I keep reading about people views on different Radios. I'll be honest, I don't really know what a Radio is? (sorry i have tried to look but don't understand it).

My Current baseband version is 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25, currently running the Modaco ROm 2.0

I want to upgraqde to the latest ROM but want to be sure of a couple of things before i do.

So my questions are... what is a Radio? and...

Do i need to upgrade my current one? If so which one is the best (and why)?

Thanks for any help guys. I'm trying really hard to get my head around all of this, but just need a few starters.

Dave

im new to android, only had my hero a week n half now but from what i understand the radio helps improve signal strength and battery usage. i can say since upgrading to the latest radio my signal sits at 4bars constantly whereas before it would stay at 2 bars and rarely go higher. cant say about the battery tho as i havent really had it long enough to test.

Thanks for your input mate. Is there a step by step anywhere on how to install it?

if you rooted you hero and flashed a custom rom its the same process, just copy the radio to the root of the mem card, rename it to update. boot to the recovery screen by holding home and power on at start up then select install from sdcard update.zip

and thats it

The "Radio" is the firmware that controls the wireless functions (such as WiFi, cellular) etc.

By updating you might improve reception (although I'd say it's as likely that other factors, like the weather, would change it). You might find other benefits though - I've noticed a big improvement in battery life when using WiFi since I switched from the "EU" radio to the "FU" radio.

ROMs and Radios downloads

Generally go for the bold ROM or Radio

So installing the radio is exactly the same process as installing a new ROM. I followed this vid to install my ROM last time

Can i do exactly the same for the radio?

Also... is a nandroid backup simply copying and pasting the contents of the sd card to my comp?? If not how do you do a nandroid backup?

Cheers, Dave
