Guest dwallersv Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Title says it all -- when I click the button on the left of the taskbar to pull up the Windows Mobile (start?) menu, the Help item is no longer there. So I can't invoke Help easily any more from within applications and get their contextual help. Help! :)
Guest necosino Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 You actually use it!? lol.. Umm, not sure what to tell you really.. Perhaps use total commander or resco explorer to navigate to /windows/ and see if help.exe is there? Or hard reset..
Guest dwallersv Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 You actually use it!? lol..Huh? Of course I actually use it. How do you find out, for example, how to use various tools in SK Tools, for example? What some of the settings mean in MemMaid? CorePlayer? Some apps don't have a Users Manual at all -- the only usage information is in the integrated Help (chm file) installed with the app. So, without the Help menu item, it's hard to get at help files for some apps, unless the vendor was nice enough to include a Help item in their application specific menu. So I really don't get your mocking sarcasm in this case... As for Hard Reset, it does indeed come back, but that's no solution. I'd rather not have to rebuild my heavily customized configuration if I can avoid it, and I'm suspecting some registry tweak I've made blew it away. Just hoping someone here knows something related that can help me track down the problem. Your post contained nothing helpful, and simply seems a gratuitous opportunity to attempt to show everyone how superior you are as one that looks condescendingly at anyone that actually clicks the Help menu item... :)
Guest necosino Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) I wasn't mocking you at all. I've just never used it, not in a really long time, I just play around with stuff until I figure out something that works, or google the problem, lol.. I was genuinely surprised to see that someone used it. And sometimes links get broken or registry gets changed, as you said. I guess I've just always been disappointed with the documentation that usually accompanies pocket app's, so I stopped looking. When I get home tonight if you haven't found a solution I'll see if I can get the registry settings for the help app itself and upload them so you can either import them or compare them to yours :) Edited October 19, 2009 by necosino
Guest vbox Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 As i remember, you can try to find it in the list in: \Settings\Personal\Menus. (not sure if its the same on i910 as on i900). If is not there, try to find Help.lnk (not *.EXE) in \Windows folder, copy and paste in \Windows\Start Menu. It will appear on the Start button. Hope that will help :-)

That was it... thanks a bunch, vbox! I totally forgot about that cpl. Help is in there as one of the items. Looking at what was checked, I've concluded that Microsoft Recite unchecked help and checked itself when installed, because I never did that. Grrrrrrr.....
