Apps2SD and AR-customer recovery image

Hi all,

thought i would add some value to the topic of Apps2SD. Here it goes:

The AR-customer-recovery image makes partitions in the order FAT32/SWAP/EXT2 (correct me if i am wrong)

The MCR expects the SDCard filesystem in the form EXT2/SWAP/FAT32 (correct me if i am wrong)

Could one of the two fix it to harmonize the entire process of moving application to SDCard?

I wouldn't call it a bug, its more of a feature request from Paul or Amon-Ra

It's fat32/ext3/swap you upgrade ext2 to ext3

i don't know what the ar does and what the mcr is expecting, but it works for me...

This is interesting to me, because since changing from the original Modaco posted recovery image to the RA recovery image I've noticed my internal memory is decreasing every time I install an app.

Anyway to check where the apps are being installed to?

Not all apps get stored on sdcard, and also internal memory gets used with things like browser cache and album cache etc.also browser data and album data if you have got something like eray you can clear these to free up abit of room.

Funny thing is, sometimes when i do an update (rom). i.e. modaco 2.7 to 2.8, it occupies space on the rom (44MB); then I ran apps2sd and move "applications" and "cache" into the sdcard and right away i freed my system's rom back to around 14MB.

I wonder what it has moved. :)

If you look in system/sd/app it shows you apps that have been moved to your sd card, some apps are protected so if you do a wipe you might need to reinstall again. If you look on sdcard there's a cache folder which saves your cache but your internal memory still uses data for things like bookmarks etc. Browser also saves cookies, passwords and history which also uses internal memory I clear these on a regular basis free up bit more room.

Interesting, using Astro and looking in system/sd/apps I have an empty folder... Card was partitioned via RA Recovery image.

Like I said though, when I used the original recovery image I would barely hit 30mb used internal and had ridiculous amounts of apps installed. I now have 18 installed and over 50mb internal used and that is after a browser cache clear.

Unless Astro can't see inside that system folder? Anyone know?

it's empty because Astro doesn't run with root permission to read the folder.

run app2sd and you'd see more space. (move both application and cache).

Yeah you will need a root manager to look at these I use Su file manager. I usually have about 126 mg left on internal memory and have bout 30 apps installed if that helps.also if you use Facebook looking a pics your album cache saves thumbnails this also takes up a lot of internal memory so you might want to clear that every so often.

yes that is true. i stand corrected. however, when i installed MODACO 2.8 last night my phone went into a boot loop.

Before that i installed the AR image and then through its recovery menu i partitioned my sdcard into Fat32/ext3/swap and then converted ext2 to ext3. However, when i installed modaco my phone went into a boot loop and i had to revert back to the stock HTC 2.73.xx rom.

The i researched and read on the forums that the modaco rom expects the SWAP to be the second partition and not the third. so that is where i felt the disconnect.

I think its got to be fat32/ext3/swap that's the way I did it through adb and have never had any problems, the only time my phone as gone into boot loop is when I came from stock to modaco Rom without wiping first when I had a lot of apps installed on phone memory, once modaco is installed you don't need to wipe everytime a different modaco Rom comes out. Hope that helps.

also, if you have an ext2/3 on your sdcard, your applications will preserve after a system + data wipe (if you do not wipe your sdcard)
