Guest Reisco Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Well as much as I liked the Omnia, I must say farewell. Four replacements in less than a year (three for the same issue - screen loosing calibration) and with the 1 year mark coming up in a few months, I don't like my odds. So, I am jumping ship to the HTC Imagio. Hopefully I will have better luck with it. That is all...
Guest necosino Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Good luck! Sucks that you had a bad run of luck with the Omnia, fortunately that's not the norm :) Let us know how you like the new Imagio though!
Guest NeoandGeo Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I solve that problem by recalibrating every couple of days. It's weird, but I only notice it getting off calibrated playing bubble breaker. Other than that the phone has been great.

That's funny I dont have that problem at all.. it might be that I am a flashaholic and have been flashing so many different roms lately...
Guest NeoandGeo Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 It could be the fault of Verizon. I am using the official 6.1 ROM with GPS unlocked, and I have to recalibrate every so often. My cousin, using the same ROM, notices his gets uncalibrated as well. Who knows. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be though, imo.
Guest UggTheThug Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 if you haven't jumped yet, might i suggest waiting for Android's latest showing, the Motorola Droid. I have neva used android b4 but it looks like one wicked phone. Also its being offered by verizon, which def. has the best coverage btw lucas arts copywrited "droid" so its used under license, thought that was interesting
Guest Reisco Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 The issue I was having is that about two to three months after getting it, I noticed that the calibration was getting off a little. After calibrating it, I used notes to draw and noticed that around the edges the calibration was fine. However, near the middle, it was off by as much a 1/4 inch. Not so good for a touch screen phone, especially browsing the internet. Then as time goes by, I would re-calibrate it only to go into an endless calibration loop. Call customer service and they would send another one. Same problem x3. Event tried changing it in the registry, no luck. I read somewhere that the digitizer is prone to overheating issues, and on occasion, the omnia get really hot. If the Droid or the new Omnia look good, I have 30 days t, a couple of things that I will miss is the D pad and flash and the on-board memory.
Guest gayflag Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Sorry to hear. I noticed my omnia would get hot, but then i flashed the updates and i havent noticed it since. who knows, i havent had a single hardware issue with mine, so i guess farewell! ps. sell me your old phone :)
Guest pules Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I have the same exact issue with mine. I've learned to deal with it (this is my 3rd week of owning my used Omnia that was brand new as of August 5th, 2009). It gets really annoying and frustrating when the screen calibration stops working, but I love the phone and the customized ROMs. gayflag - my phone gets really hot too when using the data connection on it. Is that what you're referring to? What do you mean by "flashed the updates"? I can't wait until the Android community gets that OS working on our phones and/or the HTC HD2 to hit Verizon (prob won't)
Guest Turborepu Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 this is the single most irritating thing for me about this phone.. every thing else can be fixed or customized.. but not that.. It is the only reason i am looking to get a newer phone on verizon soon. other than that I dont care about having the fastest/newest phone/gadget out there.
Guest Turborepu Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 woke up this mornin and the damn phone was being irritating i said screw it.. I called vzw and they said there were no omnias near me (im not home at the moment) but that i could upgrade to the imagio for $100 (after rebate and with some vzw loving) So I got one.. Found the only one left in El Paso Texas lol..So far its nice.. and smooth.. ppc pim back up put all my contacts into it because I didnt want vzw touching my phone lol.. and I am tethered on it as we speak with the internet sharing proggie..!! hope this screen doesnt have these issues..
Guest Turborepu Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 p.s Sorry for hijacking your thread!! but that Damn screen issue bugs the crap outta me .
Guest davidmrrr Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 I made the SAME EXACT jump. My Imagio is arriving Monday. I got mine for 150!
Guest Turborepu Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 So far I like it..ALOT .. I noticed it has no flash, but it still takes decent pics in low lighting. the reception is good, touch screen feels great. TF3d sucks the memory like crazy, but i've been reading up on mods to help that along.. GPS locks fast, AGPS weather on main screen is nice(i'm a truck driver). it is a bit bigger than the omnia, and its only 3.6 inch, imagine the htc leo, holy crap that thing will be huge.. The keyboard is great, opera only allows 3 tabs!! :D but i know you can edit the ini file. HEADPHONES WITHOUT THAT FRICKIN ADAPTER!! NO onboard storage like the omnia, but it does have generous storage for programs and rom.. i have like 156 mb left for programs on my stock rom after installing a few progs.. oh yeah 3d acceleration is nice in spb ms3 but i uninstalled it.. i'm over that ui lol.. till they release more info to the community. anywho, i know this is the omnia section so i will stop there.. its been fun and I still have my omnia, I just have to get it fixed eventually so I can still tinker with all that the great cooks here at Modaco have to offer.
Guest KP Admiral Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I feel for you, although I still love my omnia. Within the first 2 weeks of getting my phone, slipping it in and out of my pocket while at work (I work on machinery so I'm constantly stuck underneath or crouched while fixing them) The screen received a lot of pressure to it. It became uncalibrated and would only really have any accuracy around the edges, and as you approached the middle of the screen it would lose all accuracy. Calibrating it really didn't help at all, the digitizer is really prone to go out of calib. whenever it was in my pocket. If I kept it on my desk, or in my shirt pocket, all was well. I ended up returning the phone for an exchange, and they gave me a "new" one (refurb) and I haven't had ANY problems since, even when it was smooshed all around in my pockets =D Now I can't say that the digitizer is crummy on these units, but given that the Verizon rep asked no questions, and even mentioned many returns due to screen problems, leads me to believe it may be a faulty run on that part. I've gone through similar ordeals with my other non-phone PPC, several iPaq's and Jornado's have met the wrath of my work day. Although I was always pleased with the hard plastic flip covers they had on my Hx2755 and Hx4700, never had calibration problems with those units since the screen was always protected. Why can't they have something similar for smartphones?
