Guest snapz54 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 my phone had a small defect so verizon sent a replacement (refurbished) When I unwrapped it it had the firmware update! GPS on, new volume, settings and widgets. I didn't flash the original CF03 .img because I figured it was already here. I opened up UMDL and placed in a .bin of a known working rom and it started downloading, everything went smooth to 100% then the phone seemed to restart, but it never rebooted. Just turned off... Now it's black and won't start no matter what I do? No indicator light, no nothing? I bricked an omnia or two before and while the screen went black, I would still have a solid red light. Now I get nothing, absolutely nothing. I'm gonna call on monday and return to verizon, but I have the whole weekend to wonder before I return the phone. What do you guys think happened? Did I do something? Or did verizon build some kind of tripwire in their own version of the firmware update to catch flashers? thanks all in advance

Guest necosino Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 If you connect the phone to the AC adapter, and the red light doesn't come on, then the board is bad. It won't charge, turn on, or anything. Basically what happens when someone sends in a unit to be fixed is they just pop off the case, put in a new screen, and put on a new casing. They then flash it, make sure it turns on, then turn it off. This process takes all of 15 minutes, and won't detect a bad board (imo, a resistor or capacitor can take longer to burn/short out). If that red light isn't on when you plug it in, give big red a call, they're going to need to do this entire process all over again....

You're a good man sir, I'm running your very nicely done rom by the way right now. You've described what happened to me to a tee. I called verizon today(sat.) and they are sending me a brand new (not refurb) phone and I didn't have to fight, it was just offered??? probably means they are sending out more and more dead refurbs these days and don't mind clearing out omnias which they sell for only 29 new now. Thanks for the insight. Regardless of anything I like to understand things.

Glad to hear that they're starting to clear out Omnias completely, and that you're enjoying my ROM, lol :P Wish you better luck with this new one then! :D
