I had this issue when i upgraded my memory card to a class 4 8GB kingstone SDHC card and thought it was related to that. But apparently not, i had this problem with 2.6 and still through to 2.8

make sure all you guys before installing a new rom allways do a wipe and then format your sd cards using recovery or windows frest clean install i asure you wont have a problem then.

i did do a wipe and sd format.

also, removing the sd card and then putting it back in causes the hero to reboot

To Uninstall Swapper i used the following path

Home >>> Menu >> settings >> applications>> manage applications >> select swapper then uninstall.

Hope this helps

I've got a new Hero, and am having the same issue on 2.7.1 and 2.8, everytime I turn on USB sharing (Mount the SD Card), then I get the 'damaged SD Card' when I disconnect from USB.

I used the latest recovery image (1.2.3?) to wipe everything, reformatted the card and finally format the 3 partitions..

Using teh supplied 2Gb card or a new Transcend 8Gb Class 6 it also behaves in the same way..

Swapper is set to use a file on the SD Card by default, if I either tell it to use the partition (assume this shares the swap with the ROM's swap file setting?) or disable swapper, it works flawlessly..

How did you format your card? what OS are you connecting the Hero to when transferring files via USB? I'd be intrigued to know why some of us have issues and some dont..

Interestingly, if I use adb shell and type 'free' with swapper switched off, the Swap usage shows all 0's.. if I turn on swapper (to use the partition), it reports some meaningful values.. are we supposed to tell swapper to use the partition? because strangely the default is to use a file on teh SD cards FAT32 partition, which oddly causes issues when the SD card is mounted for USB transfer..

I fixed it by using the sd card dual mount. its amazing, it doesnt really "solve" the problem but a work around and it also is a useful app.

Happens on 3.0 as well.

I haven't even mounted the phone to computer today, still few hours ago my custom SMS notification sounds worked (files are on SD), and now they don't. Phone has been connected to computer via USB, though, but not mounted. After noticing the SMS sound not playing, I mounted phone to PC, and after unmounting it, I got the "Damaged SD card" warning.
