Guest bluecat69 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I've just read on the Tmobile Forum that someone has an issue where an incoming call will only ring twice before going to voice mail, but on the calling end it rings six times! THis means that the phone doesn't ring for four times on an incoming call. I've noticed this to that calls go to voice mail bloody quick before i had a chance to get the phone out my jacket pocket. I've also had calls go directly to voicemail without ringing when i've had a good signal as i've been looking at stuff onthe phone at the time. Does anyone else notice this and can it be fixed?

I used this post on XDA to increase the ring time to 30 seconds before diverting to Voicemail.
Guest Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) YThe other day I was on hold (you are now in position NINE in the queue, your call is important...) I tried to use my phone to browse the internet and it wouldn't. I saw a post somewhere saying that you couldn't make a call AND use the internet on Hero so it seems plausible that if your phone is syncing to Google or similar that you might be unable to receive a call, resulting in a divert or your phone not ringing. Pretty awful if that turns out to be the case. Edit: seems it very much is the case and that people have been advised to turn data if they want to be able to receive calls... Phone should prioritise voice over data as far as I'm aware so if an incoming call comes in it should kill the data connection and accept the call, then once the call has ended it should restore the connection. I my own experience, I have been browsing or playing an online game and have received a call no problems on the hero. This was also how it used to work on my nokia e71, however that phone told you when it was cutting the data connection/when it reconnected it.

The thread at XDA has people expressing contrasting experiences. I'm not attempting to argue with you but some there claim it's handset (software) related while others think it's network.

Got to admit I don't use voicemail myself, its quite possible theres an issue with how this particular handset prioritises voice over data etc, and to me than would be frimware related

Sure it must be more complex than that just wanted to check Yep just type it in making a call.. it worked a treat. It seems this is an issue with the G1 as well as the G2, and this is also works for both. My girlfriend has a G1 and myself a G2 and we tested both this morning, it worked a treat. EDIT: It extends the ring time but doesn't send to your voicemail, see my message below for that code to extend and send to voicemail. Edited October 28, 2009 by bluecat69
Guest Rich Cranney Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Got to admit I don't use voicemail myself, its quite possible theres an issue with how this particular handset prioritises voice over data etc, and to me than would be frimware related It is network related, not phone related. Its to do with NOM1 and NOM2 network types, one prioritises calls over data, and the other prioritises data over calls. When a phone call is received, the network should either send a request to the phone to drop the data connection or terminate it itself, with most networks this is not happening and the network see's the data connection is active and routes to voicemail or says you are currently unavailable (if no voicemail). This is purely a network issue and not a phone issue. Networks are aware of this, in 2007 t-mobile uk were "addressing" the issue, little seems to have come. All iPhone uses also have the same problem and there is a lot of problems out there. Note, if you have 3g reception, this is fine as 3g and calls can be running simultaniously. Its 2g/Edge that cannot run side by side with voice calls.

Interesting info there T mobile must have this function then as my e71 would come up packet data connection on hold when i made or received a call. I have no idea what the hero is doing but I can definitely make and receive a call in a active GPRS or 3G connection as just tested that.
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Don't forget that "active data session" would be when it's actually sending/receiving, not just when you have the G symbol lit up
Guest JulesB Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 *edit: On the same thread on XDA someone mentions that the following **61*447953642175**25# was given by T-mobile tech support and also works. However i would like someone to confirm what the difference is or rather what the code does and if it makes any difference being in the UK. The code is a standard GSM code so should work on all GSM phones at least. See the link here for a list of codes, including the RINGS UNTIL ANSWERED BY YOUR VOICEMAIL setting towards the bottom of the page. You need to insert your own voicemail divert number into the code, so this will vary by network.

When I put in ** it changes to a p ? I've also tried just typing the numbers only but same result. Sorry to be dim, but any ideas? G2 on T mobile/UK Edit, Also tried this number (voicemail shortcut) as well as the full lenght number.. **61*901*11*30# and hit call Edited October 27, 2009 by squirreleater
Guest Remington Steale Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I used the fix on the thread on XDA, my wife has a habit of phoning when I am walking to work alongside a loud busy road and I have been missing 9 out of 10 calls. Havent missed one since.

I have just changed the delay on my Hero on Orange, although I am using Hullomail for voicemail rather than the Orange Answerphone. J Edited October 27, 2009 by JulesB

And now I can say that my Hero on Orange has no issue with data/voice, while downloading a file was in progress I checked my voicemail earlier. I guess it's still possible that someone reading this might have the network issue described? I hope my posts weren't totally pointless!

Yes, I have the issues you mention, others have flagged it up on other forums. T mob seems to be the worst for it.
Guest bluecat69 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Ok i've got an update on this. The code i gave to extend the ring, did so, except didn't go ' to your voicemail. However if you look up your own voice mail number in your settings menu and write it down. Now dial the following: **61* (insert your own voicemail number here missing off the + ) **25# This extends your ring time as previously and send it to voicemail.
