I would love to flash my phone and make it more my own but im scared that i would mess it up, all the topics i have looked at made it sound really complicated. I have a omnia i900 on vodafone, i have updated it once from the samsung website and thats it, i would love to upgrade it to win 6.5 if that poss but i dont understand if it is or not, and i dont really want loads of apps thats ive never used are there roms that are plain like the factory standard kinda thing???

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

No other way, but to do it...realize, it's not as scary as you thought...and become addicted

"complicated" depends on your operating system, but if you follow the install guide closely it should be no problem. I have Vista 32bit and successfully flashed my omnia at try #1 with this tutorial

http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/283440/updating-omnia-rom-by-using-vista-solution/

And the general advice is like Globetrader said, just do it :D You can always flash WM 6.1 back if you don't like it or screw something up.

there are always risks associated with flashing new software to your phone, but follow the instructions carefully and you will realise there is nothing to it. Ive been doing it since I got the phone and must have flashed it 20-30 times if not more in that time.

There are roms with few apps, you need to look for UL (ultralite) roms although you might find that the fuller roms only really have useful apps cooked in

Don't dare to flash it!!! You will brick it for sure like the others monahans bricked ones.

I got my i900 two days ago, and I already tried 4 firmwares from here.

It's no big deal at all, just do it.

I am in the technology field... Project Manager... don't get into the low level stuff... but I flashed my phone... and have done it probably 20x since then, trying different things... just follow the directions!!! take the other guys comments about upgrading your phone first, then flash away at 6.5... I LOVE IT! you will be addicted once you get started! These chefs are really good! and fun to try!

I followed the instructions how to flash, stick to them to the last letter, all went fine until at 80% flashing stopped for no apparent reason, no error message, no nothing... and bricked my phone. It cost me 80 EUR to get it back to life (although there's a dude in Romania who claims he can fix bricked phones for 30 EUR). Before you start flashing, you should also consider the risks and ask yourself how much money are you ready to spend in case flashing goes wrong.

my findings to overcome your fear:

try it once... :D if it hurts then you can stop.

you will see that if you follow all the directions and read a lot of post from various cooks that everyone is willing to help you get started, and assist you after you flash also. but it does get very addicting, so make sure you do back-ups of your data.

+1!

The fear you have will be transformed into addiction and you won't be able to stop flashing. like everything in this world, it has some risks but if you do it the right way you will succeed.

flash and be amazed. Since you don't want much apps installed i recommend you a rom from KC or a lite one from nicklas or shokka9. since you are really noob, i recommend you also to read the respective posts.

wellcome to the flash world

flashing is very simple. its like updating windows on ur pc ( if u use that OS :D )

just read relevant posts and follow instructions and it will be fine. just follow exactly everything abt the instructions.

flashing on vista is not really advisable, i myself am running vista but i have VMware running XP Pro SP3, just to be on the safe side.

better be safe than sorry.

concerning the bricking of the fone,, it has 2 parts actually, a radio (phone) part and a PDA part.

the radio part is all abt the phone itself and the communication stuffs while the PDA is all abt an OS (wm 6.1/6.5/6.5.1) running. if i can make the comparison with a pc,, the radio part is the BIOS while the PDA part is the OS u install on the harddrive. both are important.

but back to the point, flashing the radio part with custom stuffs has a higher risk of bricking the omnia, but flashing the PDA part with custom roms here,is much safer.

most roms here if not all, are only the PDA part so it is just changing the OS in the omnia.

read ,learn. all the info and help u need, u will get here.

enjoy flashing then.
