Guest marind Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Hi, I have cracked my LCD screen, Vodafone will repair it for £40 but they say they will hard reset. I havent backed up my outlook contacts for a while. My problem is I have the omnia in direct access usb mode (cant remember the correct name for this)at the moment, so when I plug in mobile device centre doesnt see it, it just pops up like a memory stick in Vista. So can anybody clever think of a way to access my contacts? Thanks in advance.
Guest Billus Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Hopefully your phone is already set to Active Sync. Install Outlook to your computer if you haven't already. In Device Center (Vista, 7) or Active Sync (XP), select the option "sync contacts". Sync your phone. Outlook should then have all your contacts information stored.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 While the screen is cracked and not working, the touch matrix should still be working. Unfortunately unless you can remember where the settings tab is and if it is easily accessible wiy could attempt to reenable the activesyncd setting. Without this then its not really possible to recover your contacts etc from the phone. It does not help now but in future try to backup contacts daily or use the My Phone application.
Guest Zealster Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Install your own digitizer. It's freakin easy once you figure out how.
Guest rigor.m Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 I'm not 100% sure but if you soft reset does it not change USB mode to active sync automatically ? Try it at least ...

Guest XphX Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 What about using a TV-OUT-Cable? As I did never buy one I dunno if this is gonna help you.

Excellent idea, that had slipped my mind and worth a try, as long as you had the TV settings setup or you tv can handle PAL and NSTC. I've actually used that method in the past on another device that I had a broken screen on. Plus the N95 cable ir reported to work and that can be picked up very cheaply.
Guest Gibeon Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Install your own digitizer. It's freakin easy once you figure out how. Its not the digitizer dude... How about reading.
Guest disciplined Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) use MyMobiler!! If everything else is intact then mymobiler will use your mouse and keyboard plus it will display what your screen displays onto you monitor. Give it a try. It's free. http://www.mymobiler.com/ Edited October 28, 2009 by disciplined

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 From memory that app will not work as the device is currently set to be an external storage device. I think TV out is the only viable option at the moment.
Guest Number22 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Everytime you connect your phone to your computer, My Storage is disconnected from the phone. After you disconnect the phone from the PC the phone detects My Storage again. At this point, it will automatically try to run "My Storage\2577\AUTORUN.EXE" so if you put ppcpimbackup there and rename it to AUTORUN.EXE and then blindly tap the next button, it should work. I'll try to make some screenshots of what you have to press later this evening. [EDIT] After you put ppcpimbackup in \My Storage\2577\AUTORUN.EXE or \Storage Card\2577\AUTORUN.EXE, disconnect the phone and leave it for about 30 seconds so ppcpimbackup starts up. Now, if finger mouse is disabled and the optical pad is working like a d-pad, do the following: up-up-click-up-up-up-up-click. Now leave the phone for a couple of minutes until the backup finishes. After that, simply connect the phone to the PC again. The backup should be in the root of My Storage, or Storage Card. Edited October 31, 2009 by Number22
Guest marind Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Thanks so much for the help, however Ive bit the bullet and sent it off to Vodafone repair, I do have most of my contacts backed up so not the end of the world. Hopefully this thread may help someone else in the same postion though. Thanks again.
Guest natedawg1013 Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!! Next time this happens to someone: Request screenshots of every screen to get to your destination. Print out the pictures. Place the first picture over your screen. Press the button you need on your new "Screen". Keep swapping "Screens" until you get to your destination. If it doesn't work, press END, and try again. Too bad I saw this too late. :D
Guest marind Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Just to update, Ive received my phone back fromt he repair centre they have put a new lcd and digitizer on which was nice. Seems much more responsive than the old one. All in for £40 which I think is good value from Vodafone I reckon the parts would have cost me that alone. They hard reset my phone including my storage so all contacts and dates gone but I had most backed up, nevermind. My only dilema now is do I go over to the dark side and put on a custom rom, I have thought about it in the past mainly because its so frustrating have such little program memory.
Guest XphX Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Yes, switch to the dark side... if it does not fit your needs, you're gonna get killed. No, you can always go back to an official ROM.
