Android for Smartphones - Any news ?

Hi folks.

Microsoft just released its 6.5 version of Windows for mobile.

Big disappointment.

It appears the company is more into providing band aid

cosmetic solutions than listen to the negative user feedback

that seem endless. They, Microsoft seem indifferent.

It is time to encourage open source like Android to develop

an OS for smart phones like Samsung and LG models

which are good quality phones but stuck on Windows.

Google with its vast resources can give Microsoft a

run for its money and give us all some relief.

They have a new OS, Android 2.0, which

seem quite impressive. They have released the code too.

There are so many independent developers too who have the

capability to build on the Android OS to suit other model phones.

Perhaps what is required is a community approach to

financially support and encourage these independent but

talented developers to produce brilliant software.

The guys and the talent are all out there.

Is this supposed to be an add for Android?

Sounds like it might be time for you to move on if you are this disenchanted with Windows Mobile.

Are you posting this wall of texts in hoping someone will spoonfeed you some news regarding Andriod for Omnia2?

And you in turn sit behind your pc screen waiting for answers w/o even trying to do a search?

if you are not happy with windows mobile, why do u get a device loaded with Windows Mobile in the 1st place? why not get one with Andriod?

Whats wrong with 6.5? I quite like it.. titanium is beautiful; no need for a shell anymore. And everything actually is finger friendly now, I can do almost anything with just 1 hand.

Have you even tried 6.5?

Here are some reviews--

Windows Mobile 6.5 is a spit and polish job on 6.1 – nothing more, nothing less. It’s a means of holding people over until Windows Mobile 7 – at least, we hope that’s all it is. Every single change in Windows Mobile 6.5 feels like it was made by a team of homebrewers or modders, rather than a huge corporation with truckloads of money to blow on one of their flagship products. [
]

Microsoft’s not promising the world with Windows Mobile 6.5, nor are they delivering it — it’s very much a stopgap, complete with duct tape, bubble gum, and Bondo. [...] Put simply, 6.5 won’t win a single user to the platform, even though the snazzy hardware that’s running it just might. [
]

Faster, more stable and more capable it may be, but Windows Mobile 6.5 still leaves us hungry for Windows Mobile 7 simply because that OS promises the revolution Microsoft’s platform so badly requires. [
]

While 6.5 is a good update, only a complete rewrite can really convince us that Windows has a rightful place on a mobile handset. Let’s hope Windows Mobile 7 can truly deliver. If it can’t, Microsoft may find itself too far behind the game to catch up. [

As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with these reviews on a certain level. Don't get me wrong, my i910 kicks ass. The only problem is that it kicks ass no thanks to microsoft. The only reason that my device rocks balls right now is because of:

1: All the cooks here (Necosino, Wozzer, Blazingwolf, Bgill, HartV, etc. Sorry if I left anyone out).

2: All the other individuals here like myself that help test all the apps for the omnia and cooked roms.

3: Dev's over at XDA and any Dev's that make themes on the assortment of different winmo shells (namely BlueOcean over at Point UI- PointSense rocks!!)

Windows mobile WAS very inovative a few years back but honestly, it has been surpassed as of late. I don't knock winmo by any means. I have been able to do many things that are otherwise impossible to do on other platforms. I do however want to take the leap to an Android device (especially if the new ones on VZW have the sense UI).

This changes my comment how?

Again, perhaps it is time for you to move on if you don't like Windows Mobile (Phone).

Let's go a little easier oh him. It really sounds like he is challenging developers of WM to emulate the developers of Android.

And opening up an OS that encourages development better.

He isn't here pirating the forum with spam, he is only asking in a broad sense, for open source. I've studied both development camps and noticed that

all the fun is right here at WM. If you ever go poking around Android forums you won't find the enthusiasm and excitement that we are accustomed to here and the other WM forums that we all go to as well. Besides, all the hype of Android, I haven't seen an app yet that takes advantage of Intents as much as it could and which is the cornerstone of the Android OS.
