No 1.6 from HTC for HERO?

Swedish android site swedroid.se published a little snippet from a members communication with HTC about 1.6 for HERO.

[indent]Dear HTC customer,

The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.

  Best regards,

  HTC customer support team

  HTC Corp. Global Service Division

If we get 2.0 not to far from now I really won't miss 1.6 either really. Kernel sources + 2.0 in a not so distant future is acceptable if 1.6 is not released. Thoughts? :D

Sweet Jesus this is awesome news. It actually makes sense since 1.6 really isn't that much of a difference to the Modaco rom we have now. I'll be content knowing that all the fancy new features will be arriving on this phone soon!

2.0?? when!

The talk is of 2.0 being released in November

New phones being released with 2.0 installed are The Motorola Droid and HTC Droid

with release dates rumoured to be 6th November

That surely can only mean weeks later 2.0 being released for the rest of us. (Hopefully)

Early Christmas present????? :D

Will the 2.0 update come out in the Modaco custom rom before the official update? No way I'm going back to stock roms!

Nice, but what will this give us that we don't already have? Not much looking at the features:

• Microsoft Exchange support - Already in Rosie.

• An inbox allowing multiple email accounts - Already in Rosie

• HTML5 support - ??

• Double-tap zooming in the browser - Already in Rosie

• Digital zoom for the camera - Already in Rosie

• Improved dictionary for your keyboard (it learns words you frequently use and suggests contact names) - ??

• Improved graphics architecture for better hardware acceleration - ?? This could be interesting

• Multitouch - Already in Rosie

Anyways, that sad, I hope Paul get a 'leaked' version nice and early from HTC!

Multitouch??? Where?

I know the phone is capable of multitouch but I thought it wasn't implemented yet.

In the browser...

Yeah, Google navigation looks good, i wonder if it works offline though, since data signals can be sparadic at best on long journeys!

I was just thinking, if the HTC Eris on Verizon is basically a Hero, and apparently its shipping with the latest version, might this indicate that HTC have ported Sense to 2.0, and were waiting on this release, before giving it to the Hero?

Would explain why the CBA working on 1.6 if they already had 2.0 ready to go

Bluetooth API, Phone-Wide Search as in 1.6, Account Management, new Contact API.

Those are just four reasons for 2.0.

Can't wait.

does it have exchange support? we're not talking about htc sync being able to sync with outlook!

html5 support is awesome - i think, but it is a point.

i am pretty sure the improved dictionary does its job better, but i don't use any of that stuff anyway.

the multitouch feature is a pretty crippled one IMHO, as it is not able to report two touching points. it reports the first point of contact, and if you touch it at a second place it reports the distance to first touch as a bigger circle for the first touch. i hope this will be improved, if possible at all (might be limited by hardware).

Seen as 2.0 will have the integrated social networking and not just part of sense UI, what do you think HTC will do?

Same for exchange support, (HTC's doesn't really work).

I would expect that they would drop there add-ons and just reimplement the 2.0 through there own interface.

Any thoughts?

Remember there is allot of bug fixes on top of features which people neglect to mention.

Can't Wait!

I would assume so, but remember it will send data where ever possible, don't forget about Google crowd sourcing. (More the merrier)
