I've got all my apps on my micro sd, since a hot swap yesterday all my widgets stopped working and some programmes force close almost instantly.

This might be an obvious outcome but I wasn't expecting it. I'm enjoying uninstalling and then reinstalling at the moment.

Yay!

A regular nandroid backup can help here.

Use my backup pro or backup 4 root users backup all your apps and copy it from sdcard to your desktop.then you don't have to go through your troubles of installing everything again.

But you do. Having a backup of the install file doesn't mean you don't have to re-install the app. This is where nandroid comes in.

does a nandroid backup copy stuff from your sdcard? AFAIK not.

but you know what helps? not pulling the sdcard while hero is powered on. did it once, after that it was corrupt. not doing it (not necessary anyway) and i'm good... :D

Yeah, pulling your SD is definitely to be avoided. I was under the impression that a hot swap would be ok but hadn't considered the apps/swap file being damaged or whatever. Returning the original card doesn't fix things, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still had issues with widgets and reception/data access. Even after a Nandroid restore things remained the same. My Backup Pro files didn't sort it either.

What I had to do in the end was to install over the top (happily not a total waste of time since I hadn't bothered updating to 2.8 from 2.5 - the wifi disconnect/switched on feature is good to have btw if you haven't.) and after still having OTA data problems I had to reinstall the radio. After this I repaired the file structure from the boot menu, first time it said it couldn't do it but after instructing it to do it a second time it seemed alright.

Fingers crossed all's well now and I'm pretty much back to where I was, aside from a new ROM. Ultimately I think all that happened was the EXT3 partition got damaged and had I repaired that then I'd have perhaps been fine. C'est la vie.
