Updating the Radio

Hi there,

I'm just wondering if there is any point in updating the radio / baseband version from 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25 to the newest version?

Does it have any advantages in doing so?

And what is there a thread I can follow to upgrade it it?

Cheers

I looked through the stickies, but I'm not going to go searching through heaps of pages for a single question / answer.

There really needs to be some massive FAQ to help with something like this.

Dude isn't it enough that people are kind enough to take out time to reply to your queries and make all these fantastic ROMs. I think the least you could do to help is perform a search.

I did search, but came across nothing. I still have no information on the installation of radio / baseband update.

And it's great that they do, but I'm pretty sure there is a whole community here, that should hopefully help eachother out.

To answer your question...YES it is a good idea to update radio as the old radio had issues with dropped calls and Paul's latest 2.8 ROM operates better with the latest radio (as indicated in his 1st post).

To update you use the same process as a ROM upgrade. Copy it in your SD card and then reboot in recover image and apply radio image using the "update any zip" option. The thread you need to follow is THIS.

see, if weren't that hardcore ignorant maybe you would have performed a search in the meantime. if you had searched for "radio update" (which is not that far away to come up with, if you want to "update" your "radio"), you would have found this:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...ll-a-new-radio/

or that:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...radio-upgrades/

or that:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...o-for-t-mobile/

and you still want to tell us there is no information about this? yeah, we better have a noob asking all the questions everyday, so every other noob only needs to read the first thread and knows everything. better yet, he shouldn't be needing to read the thread, maybe we should read it for him and just magically root&upgrade his phone... man do we suck.

Woo thanks for the links! I tried to do a search, however each time the browser would timeout - does that really make me "hardcore ignorant"? I even tried an insite Google URL search, and it I couldn't find anything.

I didn't say that - I said it's too hard to find this information. Mate, get over yourself.

Kendon, I hope you're not an accurate representation of the community here - because you're just a tosser.

Anyway, thanks for the links!

I think that you really should take stock of what Kendon is saying. My immediate reaction to your post that states:

...but I'm not going to go searching through heaps of pages for a single question / answer

was that you are coming across as someone who can't be bothered to dig for the info you need but expect someone else who already has to give you all the answers. This may well be a completely false impression of you but posts like the above won't help your cause.

My first ever experience with an Android phone is that of the Hero which I got when my iPhone was smashed just under 3 weeks ago. I managed to find the info for installing custom roms, uninstalling unwanted individual apps from those Roms, updating the radio and finding out the O2 data settings so that the Hero can get online all within a couple of hours of searching on this forum without having to post a single question. In fact this is only my second or third post here.

I don't think that there is a single forum on the net that doesn't occasionally get fed up with people continually posting questions about info that is freely available from within the forums themselves.

If you looked through past posts from Kendon on this site you will find a lot of help for noobs and the like. I don't think that calling anyone a tosser because they just wan't posters to help themselves rather than just expect help is really that justified and certainly won't help you in the long run.

These forums, and others like it, exist because of a few talented people that take the time to attempt to improve our hardware to a level beyond that of the original manufacturers. And through people who take time out to ensure that this info is freely available to the rest of us. If your browser was timing out during searches then at least spend a little more time in explaining that in your first post to avoid any misunderstanding.

Anyway I hope that you have now acquired the info that you need and have successfully updated your phones radio.

Regards.
