Guest cohonas Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Hi all, I recently purchased a HTC Hero on Orange and found I needed to update to modaco 2.8 custom rom to be able to unlock the phone. I followed the instructions found elsewhere on this forum for installing the Rom and the radio but when it startsup it simply reboots itself constantly. No signal is found either, it seems to install ok as it states it is successful so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. If I restore the back up everything works as normal again. Help please.....

I know it doesn't unlock the phone - you're obviously to lazy or stupid to read the question! The update is required to enable it to be unlocked via codes.... Any constructive answers would be appreciatted.....
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Easy fellas! This is a friendly forum, no need to snipe. If you're still stuck in the boot loop it might be that you installed the Enhanced pack without installing the Core. Download the RUU and apply it, and it should put you back to the start... http://content.modaco.net/hero/RUU_Hero_HT...ed_NoDriver.zip
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I know how to unlock a phone no need to tell me you need a code. Good luck. :D

Guest chucky.egg Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Jeez guys, calm down! For people with such "high" post counts I'd have thought you'd be a bit easier on a complete newbie Neither of you gave him any help with what terms to search for. Now, he has the answer, he needs to do a little research, but can fix his "broken" phone.

Now, he has the answer, he needs to do a little research, but can fix his "broken" phone. Thanks Chucky for the constructive help - I am a complete newby to the Android scene so I don't have much idea about applying Rom's or even what I am supposed to be searching for as I was only directed to the ROM update which is supposed to allow me to unlock the phone. I simply followed the instructions for installing the Rom which seemed to be successful - I am sure it is the core "2.8-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip". I will restore the backup and then install the RUU you directed me to - then I will run the update again? I am assuming this is what is required. The other guys who simply had a go at me for asking a stupid question - really sorry for being a muppet, I didn't realise you had ask questions a certain way in this forum or find the answers yourself, when you're not sure sure what you're looking for - I've always assumed that forum's were there to help people! Silly me...
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Yep... The RUU is a PC_based ROM flashing tool, use that to get back to a working handset. Then (if you still want to, I don't know what version you want) you can re-do the custom ROM process. When searching the forums the trick is the same as Google - "what terms would people use to write about this?" I did a search, changing the phrasing of your issue, and found the answer in a few minutes. People will help, but effective searching is always a faster way to find your answer.
Guest kendon Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 and still no wipe. coulda been so easy...
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Is a wipe all that's required then? If only you'd actually helped!... shame. On you.
Guest kendon Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Is a wipe all that's required then? If only you'd actually helped!... shame. On you. idk if a wipe solves all your problems, but since you obviously haven't tried it we still don't know. you didn't want to read, you didn't want to hear you should read, there you go. it is stated on basically every page of the mcr thread. someone has a problem, someone else tells him to wipe, everything works. but hey, lets make a new thread... one of the moronic geeks will explain it again! they have no life, they got nothing better to do than solving my problems while i scratch my nutsack!

Guest kendon Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Your device can be SIM-Unlocked with any ROM. Just do the following: 1. Place a SIM from another carrier in the phone 2. Turn the phone on 3. 'Enter Unlock Code' should appear on the screen 4. Type in the unlock code 5. Select OK 6. The phone should display Completed Of course, you'll need an unlock code from your operator. ...Does this post make me look like a moronic Geek? no, because the "moronic geek" discussion was about installing the custom rom, not entering any unlock codes. does anybody read before they reply these days?
