Guest AndyCr15 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I'm having a few problems with my Hero, so I want to start fresh. I'm currently using 2.8 with the 1,8 kernel. I did a wipe, but all the apps still show as installed? I assume because of Apps2SD. How can I properly start a fresh and let me just add apps back in that I want?

I would probably copy everything from my fat32 partition back to the pc and then reformat the sd card then copy it back
Guest GodsDevil Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I would uninstall all the apps and re-install them all. After a wipe sometimes the apps which are not in the App2SD get deleted. You will see the icon in the menu but when you click the link will appear to be broken. For any app that is not working just uninstall and re-install. If you have a good wi-fi connection it shouldn't take too long. :D
Guest AndyCr15 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I would probably copy everything from my fat32 partition back to the pc and then reformat the sd card then copy it back When I put the SD card into my PC, only one 'drive' shows up, the main one. It's partitioned into 3 I think. How do I get to the others? I would uninstall all the apps and re-install them all. After a wipe sometimes the apps which are not in the App2SD get deleted. If I can wipe, remove ALL the apps and just put back on the ones I really use... As it stands, some show as installed still, some don't. I don't really know what it's doing. Why would any show as installed after a wipe :D Thanks for the help guys.
Guest GodsDevil Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 If you have a Nandriod backup that you did before installing custom ROM or apps, restoring that would be the quickest way. After that you can format you SD card and re-flash the ROM and Kernel and then install all the apps you need. :D D
Guest AndyCr15 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) I did try a Nandroid backup to back when I thought it was safe, but it was resetting itself too. Again, 1) How do I see the different partitions? Windows didn't seem to see them when I put the card in. I'm worried if I plug the SD into Win7 and format, it will just format the files partition and I'm not really in any better position. 2) Where are the A2SD apps stored, so I can clear them out. I've not changed anything, but now 'My Downloads' is only 8 or 9 apps long, like I want it, but when I go to my menu, links and icons to all the apps are still there? That can't be healthy? That can't be healthy? if you have amon ra recovery installed (which you should): boot into recovery mode, select "wipe ext partition", "wipe dalvik-cache", "wipe data/factory reset". after that you reflash the rom (just to be sure), reflash the kernel and yor're set.

Seems like your Nandriod backup was not done properly. And to answer your questions... 1. Windows will only show you FAT partition. It cannot detect EXT or Swap partition. To see those partition you need use ADB tools. Following commands will show you your partition: adb shell parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 print And formatting your SD card in Windows will format it completely. 2. Boot into recovery mode and wipe you EXT partition. The wipe and reflash. That should solve your problem. D

Guest AndyCr15 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Which should I use on the Hero? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492 I used H, used method one and it would appear I no longer have a recovery image. Booting holding Home just hangs it showing HERO on the screen. I can remove the battery and boot up thank god, but how do I get my recovery back? :D

Guest kendon Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Awesome, thanks guys. Back on track now ;-) I get confused with Android, cause so much stuff I get linked to for my Hero is in other phones forums :-/ there is two main important forums, first is this (hero.modaco.com), second is the hero thread at xda-devs. and pay attention to what you are flashing, you can easily brick your hero with the wrong images, as you are dealing with very low level stuff here.
