Guest elpelco Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) I've had my hero for a while now and the awake time is ALWAYS at 100%. I tried switching to handcent sms and using startup auditor, but to no avail. Any suggestions? I'd really like to get beter battery life out of my hero. :D Also, I'm considering installing a custom ROM on my phone. HOWEVER, I have no idea how to go about this, and I can't find a guide on the site. (Yes, I have searched). How simple is it? What do I need to backup and what app should I use for it? How long does it take etc etc. Sorry for all the questions. :P Edited November 4, 2009 by elpelco

Then look at installing something like Y5 Battery Saver to auto enable/disable your WiFi if you forget....

I installed spare parts a few days ago, but it force closes whenever I click on battery history :D
Guest Higgsy Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I noticed this issue last night after i thought my battery was draining a bit quick last night, not really sure how long but cpu was at 100%, woke up this am and found that awake time had been on 100% over the last 7 hours? Checked spare parts and found Adroid System was the culprit. If I turned off the always on mobile data and checked again the phone started sleeping correctly. At the end of the day I had never had this issue previously, so was sure that the always on mobile data couldn't be the sole issue. After thinking what I had installed recently, remembered I has just installed a clear lock screen theme, So re flashed MCR 2.9 to get rid of it and it fixed the awake time issue. To test that it actually was this causing the issue, I reapplied the clearlockscreen.zip update and awake time went back to 100%, re flashed MCR again and the problem was resolved again - mobile data is set to always on still. So I have no idea how a theme update can cause this issue, however for me it was clearlockscreen.zip that caused the issue. I'm gonna flag it up to ratcom who very kindly made this theme and see what he thinks. In the mean time if any of you guys have any idea why this theme would cause the problem, then please let me know! H
Guest DickieUK Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 exact same issue here with ClearEverything2.9.zip from the ratcom... noticed after a 10% battery warning after about a 7 hour period... cpu usage since last unplugged shows mainly Android system, i get no data available in Total since boot or Total in all time... Dickie.
Guest Caffeine Dependent Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 c) Change CPU usage to "Partial Wake Usage" What exactly is Partial Wake Usage? What states should the phone ordinarily be in? I seem to have massive Partial Wake Usage with MyBackup Pro :)
Guest Higgsy Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 What exactly is Partial Wake Usage? What states should the phone ordinarily be in? I seem to have massive Partial Wake Usage with MyBackup Pro :) I believe this is things like background data sync - background periodic checking of twiiter/email etc. and any other process that works in the background.

Dickie. To DickieUK and anyone else with this issue. I had to do a full wipe due to missing paid apps from the market yesterday, after which I decided to reinstall ratcoms clear lock screen - and am no longer getting the issue with 100% awake time. So my advice would be a full wipe and reinstall to resolve the issue. Very weird problem though. Edited November 8, 2009 by Higgsy
Guest packetlss Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 What exactly is Partial Wake Usage? What states should the phone ordinarily be in? I seem to have massive Partial Wake Usage with MyBackup Pro :) Partial Wake is when the phone is running CPU with the screen off. Like background updates and such.

Guest elpelco Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 UPDATE: Ok. Have installed Modaco 2.9. Awake time is STILL 100%, though. Partial wake usage in spare parts shows it's 'Android' system. Is there a fix for this?

Guest elpelco Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 and you did wipe? and also wiped (better repartitioned) your sdcard? and after the wipe flashed again? I did wipe. Only before, not after, though. I did wipe the card, but I'm swapping it out tomorrow; my 8gb card came today so tomorrow I'm going to partition that and get apps2SD set up too. So tomorrow when I go to do that, should I do another wipe and then partition my new card?

Guest dwattsy21 Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 If you change the settings from the phone being awake while the screen is locked, will you still get emails on time etc? Or only when the screen is unlocked?
Guest elpelco Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 yes. wipe, partition, flash. then you should be good. Cool. I will give that a try, thankyou.
Guest elpelco Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I do believe the problem has been solved. I had to reflash yesterday, and after I did that I added all my widgets back on, and one of them kept force closing so I removed it, and since then, my awake time has been steadily dropping. :) It was a countdown widget. It didn't even occur to me to look at that one, but thinking about it, it makes sense.
