Guest Roton Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Is there any proxy option which lets you configure a proxy to use for all applications which use the internet? Or maybe one just for the browser? Browsers which I know have that option (such as Opera) aren't out on android. Does anyone know of an alternative? Thanks.

Guest Baggieboy Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 have you tried using the proxy and port in the apn settings? That only works with the mobile network. What the OP (and I) need is the ability to specify a proxy for the WiFi connection. Even my iPod touch allows me to do that, as it stands I can't use my Hero on my Corporate WiFi network.
Guest Funkyfin2000 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 still looking for the same here also!!! :D
Guest Marcony0 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 i want that option too. but opera does work on Hero, doesn't it ?
Guest Roton Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 have you tried using the proxy and port in the apn settings? I only need it for wifi since I trust my providers connection, but I do not trust wifi hotspots. i want that option too. but opera does work on Hero, doesn't it ? You're quite right! I don't know why I didn't find it before. I have now installed Opera mini but still no proxy option. I would have thought a purpose built browser would have included such a function.

But i'm pretty much sure there is a tweak online how to configure proxy on Opera Mini, i just didn't search for it yet properly. Be My Guest to do it, i will later on :) EDIT : Try This, since its weekend, i can't really try it at my college. so can anyone give this a try ? it's a modded version of Opera mini 5 Beta version :D It opens up a window to configure proxy. I'm just trying it now but there doesn't seem to be an option to open file in j2me and the java option just shows one empty folder called sd. Edited November 7, 2009 by Roton

Well i will tell you what i did, i simply downloaded it . Clicked on it, and it asked me with what should i open that Jad/Jar file i selected Java (Cofee Cup Icon) application and it installed . Now i can find it under /scdcard folder. Runs Good n smoothly, see how that works for you.

I have loaded it fine but cannot get the proxy connecting to localhost on 8080 (using connectbot to forward the local connection). Will mess around more tonight.

Guest Roton Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) but you tried the modded version ? it pops up a proxy settings :) Yep, but my proxy is another program called "connectbot" running on the same phone. When I try to connect it just says connection not found. There can only be 2 reasons: 1) Opera does not like connections to 127.0.0.1:8080 2) ConnectBot is not accepting the connection due to a config issue. I shall post when I find out which it is :D Edited November 7, 2009 by Roton

Guest Roton Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 alright, i will try testing it tomorrow if i dont forget * i got big medical chemistry exam :) * , what's connectbot ? ConnectBot is an ssh client, but you can use it to port forward too. I load it up and connect to my ssh server. This login is successful and I can send remote commands fine. I then forward local port 8080 to another location. I have set up Opera to use 127.0.0.1:8080 for all its requests. This way it will send the requests to ConnectBot, which will then forward them to where I specified. Problem is that Opera doesn't even see 127.0.0.1:8080 as a valid connection address. I've also tried typing 'localhost:8080' but again this is not seen as a valid connection. Perhaps ssh tunneling on a Hero is too much to ask for?

Oh now i see, good to know about a ssh client will probably use that sometime. meanwhile, i frogot to test it the settings at my college, why do they have to have a proxy server :S makes life harder. So forwarding opera through connectbot is not working. What's else can we try ? I will still test the modded opera tomorrow, and tell you what results i got.

ConnectBot can connect to the server fine from my phone. I can even send commands ok to get directory listings, stop/start services etc. No worries since I sometimes miss the obvious stuff so any suggestion is welcome!
Guest 智芃 罗 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 There is going to be a opera mobile for android soon.Don't worry about it so much.
