Guest cmdrfire Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Hello all, I recently got an unlocked HTC Hero from Malaysia to use in the UK. I've got it happily set up with my O2 service, no problems there (of course, it's an unlocked phone). However, it lacks a Market app so I can't access the Marketplace at all - I've since found a couple of references online that suggest that certain South East Asian phones (particularly ones sold in Malaysia) lack the Market app for licensing reasons or something like that. I did try contacting HTC support but they've not been of any use so far. Essentially what I'd like to do is install the HTC Generic 2.73.405.38 ROM on my device. Unfortunately, I can't do this. If I go to the HTC website to download the RUU it won't allow me to because of my device's serial number. If I want to follow the instructions here (http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...ce-permanently/) to install the patched recovery image fails - I get the C:\Users\...\Hero>fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow) error. Digging a bit deeper, it might be because of the ROM already installed on my device: Firmware version 1.5 Kernel version 2.6.27-8dd6deee htc-kernel@and18-2 ) Build number 2.73.728.5 146733 CL#61267 release-keys Seems that I can't do the fastboot thing with build 2.73.x. So I looked to do the flashrec thing as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613 Unfortunately... one of the instructions there... 9. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one. 10. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the flashrec-20090815.apk file and click on it. If asked, tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk. I can't go to the Market because I don't have a Market app! So I'm a bit stumped right now. Can anyone offer me advice on how best to get the 2.73.405.x ROM installed (or alternatively to get a Market app for my current ROM - but I have read that that's not possible because the Market app comes as part of the kernel?). thanks, cmdrfire
Guest cmdrfire Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 As an update, I just found from xda-developers forum the 2.74.405.5 RUU to download; I downloaded and ran it and just got an ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR. What does that mean?

Managed to downgrade the set, root the device and updated to modaca v2.9 by following these: Step 1. Install APN Drivers : http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-se...ndroid-devices/ Step 2. Downgrading Firmware to enable Rooting: http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/18/how-to-do...-can-be-rooted/ Step 3. Boot into Recovery Menu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613 Step 4. Installing Modaca: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-lo...-your-htc-hero/ Remember to choose "wipe" from recovery menu before installing Modaca! Hope these help!
