New version of HTC Sync for Hero (and friends)

I have downloaded and installed the application and it appears no different from 2.0.4 on the Hero. It still manages to make a complete mess of synching contacts resulting in duplicates on the phone and in Outlook which mean I have to sort out the mess in Outlook, wipe all the contacts from the Hero and do a Recovery Synch to over-write the phone with the cleaned up Outlook contacts. Palm have been doing it properly for years, so surely it cannot be that hard!

Guys

So what does everyone use to synch their Hero with Outlook? I agree the sync from HTC really is pants, but what else is there?

Thanks - Tony

I'm using Thunderbird with the Lightning and Provider for Google Calendar. It syncs between your phone, Google Calendar and Thunderbird/Lightning all the time. Just add an event either of the 3 places, and it's instantly on the others, i.e. add an event on your phone, and it will automaticcaly sync with google calendar, which automaticcaly syncs with Thunderbird. Or the other way around. Works perfectly.

I use [Menu]->[Data sync]->[Exchange Active Sync] to synchronize My work mail and all of my Contacts/Calendars over the wireless networks.

USB is used only for charging and for access to the /sdcard.

Did you find that Exchange Synch gave you all the details from your contacts? e.g. I find Im missing half the postal address details when I look on the handset - when I check Outlook its all there
