Official Radio Updates

Hi All,

I have been having signal issues with my un-branded HTC hero since i got it (on t-mobile UK). Searching on the internet for answers brought me to this site, and thats when i noticed the radio updates for the HTC Hero.

My hero isn't rooted and still has the official HTC Hero firmware on it. So my question is; will these radio updates ever make it into an official HTC firmware update (i know they are working on an android 2.0 update so maybe they will be included in that)? Or do i need install a custom rom to get access to them?

I don't even know where the radio updates come from (is it HTC or a third party?), hence my confusion on the matter.

If the radio updates will never become official, then more than likely i'll install a custom rom, as the signal issues are driving me mad at the moment.

the radio is independent from the rom. you can update it without updating the rom, though it can be included in the rom. modacos roms do not contain any radio, so installing the rom does not touch the radio. you can update the radio while keeping the stock rom (but i am not sure if there might be issues or not), though you need to use the custom recovery image.

the official 2.0 rom for hero will most certainly include a new radio, i would say. if this is wrong please correct me.

my suggestions for you would be to try the last radio with your stock rom.

Thanks Kendon. I've just installed the latest radio against my stock HTC rom, and all seems ok (I can make calls and surf the web).

Initial impressions are that the new radio hasn't made much difference though, the signal is still fluctuating quite a lot. Fingers crossed it gets better....
