[Think Tank] Google Navigation on HTC Hero

Trying to get Google Maps with Nav working on the HTC Hero. Please keep the discussion related to actually getting it working. For reference see the following:

So far I have modified the build.prop and gotten the maps apk to install, however when attempting to open Maps I get a force close message. Attempting to do it again, as I did not clear the dalvik-cache the first time around.

Do we need to modify the build.prop and also get build.hero.prop ? it might work.

have you tried directly installing Maps.apk?

As far as I red on xda-developers it only works on Android 1.6.

Modaco ROM is 1.5, so that will not work.

Cyanogemod is 1.6. I thought it has no Sense and no standard Google application like Gmail and Calendar.
