Help with SD Card formatting

Hi all,

Apologies but I'm a noob here and with the Hero. I installed the latest custom ROM yesterday, no problems. Followed the instructions on here.

Today I wanted to take the 8bg sd card from my old Nokia 8500. So I formatted that on the Nokia. I then mounted my hero sd card on the Pc and copied all the folders I had to my PC. The used the phones format funtcion to format the card. I then popped the new card into the HTC with the intention of simply moving the files back over from the PC to the new card. But I can't see the card on either the phone or the PC. Formatting doesn't work on either phone or PC. On the phone it seems to do nothing and on the pc it says no disk inserted.

So I tried popping the old card back in and I have the same problem, neither PC nor phone can see it. I'd like to just reformat either card so I can use it again. Can I do this by booting into recover mode? If so, can someone please tell me exactly what I need to do? Sorry if this is stupd but like I said I'm a noob! Thanks in advance folks...
