Guest Andrew Ryan Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Well, it wasn't easy, but i think i made it: i managed to install MoDaCo 2.9. I got stuck in the endless reboot problem, but after trying to wipe/repartition/repait the sd card 2-3 times, and reinstalling the ROM a couple of times, i got my shiny new ROM working. Now, i have some doubts, and i ask you guys for help (i quote the parts from the sticky and add my questions) 1. "- Added Dropbear SSH running by default, check 'About' screen for password (port 2222). You can now remove this by running /system/bin/removedropbear.sh" I downloaded putty, logged in as root to my phone's ip address (he asked me something about keys, and i said Yes - store them) and using the password found in the about screen - all to no avail, as i kept getting "access denied". why? in the end i simply "adb-windows.exe shell /system/bin/removedropbear.sh" it to remove it. it rebooted by itself when i did it, is that right? 2. "- A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT2, EXT3 or EXT4 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device." - how do i use this? how can i choose when to install in the sd card? 3. "- Added Jbed Java" - what is this for? just for running java applets? 3. "- Added Google Voice Search and required speech library" - can i remove this? how? 4. "- Added Notes app from Dragon" - can i remove this? how? 5. "- Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!)" This one's really strange... i had no Spare Parts installed! I had to download it from the market... I confirm that the "fast" animations are the best :) 6. "- Added android-wifi-tether 1.60 pre3 (props to the developer, this is a great app!)" How do i use this? 7. "- Added WiFi Status indicator, with kind permission of Andrew Schwimmer" How do i use this? I don't see no new wifi indicator/widget/app/option... nothing... 8. "- Added busybox 1.15.2 - tweaked such that 'get information' in Swapper now works as desired" 9. "- Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode" 10. "- Added parted and sqlite tools" How do i use these? 11. "- Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use - Added tun.ko file - Added files required for Debian linux including loxley's updated bootdeb script" I have no idea what these are for... 12. "- Added cyanogen's huge APN list" Hmmm... i don't have need for this, since my APN is simple to remember. Can it be removed? I don't like having a huge (useless - to me) list eating my phone's memory 13. "- Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall" Actually, i have no quickoffice at all... strange... 14. "- Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit)" Confirmed - thank god! Actually... maybe i am saying something moronic, but... since i have no "Spare Parts" and "Quickoffice", is it possible that they got installed in the ext3 partition, and this is somehow not mounted by the phone? I have no idea... can you please guys help me? Or at least direct me to some tutorials and documention to understand how all these new toys work! Thank you in advance for your kindness and patience!
Guest kendon Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 1. the reboot was ok. 2. if you have an ext2/3/4 partition on your card apps are installed there, if you do not have it they are installed in phone memory. only way to choose is to have the partition or not, this not choice-every-install thing. 3. don't know 3. probably, but i don't know whether this might cause problems. 4. by removing the apk from /system/app 5. strange, but as long as it works... 6. start it, click "start wifi ap", connect laptop to new found wifi network, surf the net from laptop 7. it comes up in the statusbar when your wifi is active but not connected to a network. no further options/widgets/apps here. 8/9/10. if you don't know what these are and how you use them you won't use them, so ignore. 11. ignore them. tun.ko is for vpn and other, bootdeb is to run debian linux besides your android. 12. no idea where it sits, but can't be that big... 13. be happy, quickoffice is not really good imho 14. made my own bootscreen, but i liked having the second (ugly) part of the stock bootsounds cut off, so there is only the androids sounds. the part with the missing apps seems a little bit strange, i would guess that after your last flashing of the rom you wiped the sdcard partition or repartitioned it. try to reflash without a wipe at all, then the apps should appear. or just leave as is. read around the forums here and at xda-developers.com, all the information is there.
Guest Andrew Ryan Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 follow-up: i reflashed once more, and again i did a wipe/repartition/reipar/convert... actually almost every RA-Hero option available :D (except the "only fat32"). I reflashed and woo-hoo: got quickoffice, spare partes, wi-fi tether icon, voice search icon - every app that was absent before, now is here! I guess there was really something strange going on with the apps on sd... glad that now is sorted. I'm back off exploring my new rom, thank you for your input! :)

I did that once before and i didnt have some apps because of wipe ! reflashed it and it was all back :D How is the rom doing ? faster, isn't it ?

I did that once before and i didnt have some apps because of wipe ! reflashed it and it was all back I had the same after a wipe and install of 2.9 - some of the apps, including SpareParts, were missing. Reflashing the device restored them.
