HTC Hero on the 3 UK Network

Hi all

Does anyone else have a Hero on 3 UK? I have and want to root it and do a nandoid backup. I was wondering if I can use any method to root it, and then to use a generic rom. Im a total noob at this rooting, so any help is much appreciated.

I have no idea. There doesnt seem to be any branding on the phone...

OK just tried to run the flashrec.apk, and it said Command Failed (or something like that...) does that mean I can't root? I need a nandroid for Paul, but cant get it if I flash with the recovery ROM can I?

Give the app "instant root" (it's in the market) a try ...

Im still having issues trying to root this bloody phone. Any ideas whatsoever please? Searched high and low for an answer (or at least something to get me started) but having no luck :(

I have rooted mine, I used the gold card method, google for it, if you follow the instructions, should work fine.

Once you have the Gold Card in your phone, you can run the flashrec method to root it.

I have also installed and now run the modoco rom.

Mine is on 3 too, I did the Goldcard method after some screwing around and got Modaco 3.2 b5 on there and it works fine. I think the fact this Modaco is based on a 3 rom probably helps.

I got the goldcard working, but when i tried applying the older RUU, it said invalid customer ID (or something to that effect)...any ideas?

gOT mODACO rom 3.2b5 on now too (joined up for Ad-Free to say thanks for all the help and info). Absolutely great, going to have a play around with some different ROMS I think!

So much better than the stock roms this way.
