Hero won't startup again after applying modaco core rom

I have some problems now with my Hero since it won't boot anymore. The only thing I can do is go to the recovery mode. But there, I can't do anything but the option Flash/update image...

I used the one-click method, which worked all fine, no errors. Then I downloaded the core-rom and placed it on the sd card.

Then I went to the recovery screen, but the video at theunclockr.com shows a slightly different menu structure, but I thought it was normal.

Then I wiped all data

Then I went to flash / update image

Then rebooted

Since then, I can only see the Hero-logo appearing and that's all. I know you need to wait a long time, but I waited several hours until my battery drained out....

I can't go back to unroot now since htc sync can't find my device anymore of course. The only thing i can do now is access my sd card from the recovery screen!

please someone help!

ps I haven't done the nandroid backup since I thought that the flashrec apk made a backup image (backup recovery image.zip) so i was wrong???

I installed the stock rom from above: HTC Generic 2.73.405.5 - download

...and it works again :)

Now I have root access, but what did I do wrong that the update.zip-rom won't boot? Is it possible that the rooting process didn't go right?

I downgraded my firmware to another 2.73.405.5 (EU region) and I could use the one-click root method. Is that normal? I got the rom from the xda-developer forum.

re-download the update. Do not use the one you already downloaded. Try again. Remember to wipe, update, wipe. Also clear your ext3 partition (if you have one).

I downloaded the update from the sticky above:

'Core' download: http://content.modaco.net/hero/2.9-update-...core-signed.zip

What other update could i take? As far as I understand, the core-file is my base file and necessary to run the modaco rom...?

So, you are saying that I should wipe the data first (i can also wipe other stuff, but only have to choose the first one, the data?), then apply the update. Then after the flashing, wipe AGAIN?

And how do i know whether i have an ext3 partition? Is it located on my sd card?

I think I found out what the problem was... I used this: 'Core' download: http://content.modaco.net/hero/1.1-update-...signed.zip'

now I used the 2.9 versoin and it works fine... What's the 1.1 version then? Because it confuses me...

Looking at the file it appears to be the ROM for the CDMA (American) version of the Hero which has a different set of hardware to the GSM (Much Of The Rest Of The World) version.

Trying to run ROM for what is in effect a different device is definitely not recommended but at least no permanent harm appears to have been done :)

For me it tooked about 20minutes for the first boot after updating.
