GF pointed me to this: http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/11/05/wat-...ndsets-with-it/

Not sure how much credibility it has? HTC did confirm 2.0 for the Hero but to be fair will it be this year or next?

But it would seem odd that 2.0 would be exclusive... I think its more that maybe if 2.0 is a sort of v2 pre-release like 1.0 then most phone companies will wait for a 2.X release before they integrate.

Any thoughts?

(I'm still hope we get our 2.0 Update even if it is pre V2)

i stopped reading right here "This is another post in my “Wild arsed theories” (WAT) category. It’s a pure speculation, based on the stuff I see happening in mobile industry. And some of these posts will certainly be completely off base. So if you have some corrections, objections, or knowledge that I am wrong, do not hesitate to share them in the comments."

+1, i read to the point where he started to suspect 2.0 being a "pre-release". this is heavy BS imho.

Well it is all speculation.

Does he even realise how open source, and in particular Android works?

He's suggesting that Eclair was written purely for the Droid, and that it would be too much effort to port it to other handsets.... utter, utter tripe. So the source for 2.0 doesn't exist? Wrong! The source is available, the delay is due to all the manufacturers wanting to skin Android, develop their own homescreens and build their own apps in. They've had to work on 1.5 and 1.6 because it takes months to write, and QA their additions - if they waited for the 2.0SDK, their phones wouldn't be out until next year.

At least he's clever enough to put a warning on regarding the fictional nature of his claims.

That was more along my lines of thinking, it just takes time to reintegrate there hardware/customisations with the source code.

The man has a point that is simply true:

The android 2.0 that is running on the Droid is actually an unfinished android quickly patched up to be released on a single device. Indeed, much like the first android was for the G1 / Dream.

The sources are released except for a lot of stuff that is closed source, the google devs said themselves. So yeah, android 2.0 is not ready yet. And indeed, may not be ready for quite a couple of months.

But be it android 2.0 or 2.1 or 2.xxx... we WILL get an update and other devices will appear. You just have to realize that it's not going to be this year that android 2.x is released completely, let alone an update for our devices.

So the author of the article may be speculating in the right direction, but what gives? We will get a released android 2.x somewhere... we just have to wait patiently.
