Guest Agent Orange Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 Hi I bought my i900 about a year ago. I stuck with it for about a month or two before sticking it back in it's box and returning to my Nokia 6300. There was a lot I liked about the Omnia and somethings I wasn't keen on but in the end the unit was just too slow with a poor interface. I tried SPB shell which address some of the interface issues but as just a layer on top of the existing software was again too slow. Just re-discovered the Samsung in a cupboard and was curious. Has anyone created a custom ROM or new OS for the device that might address the gripes I had with it? Only requirements are: phone, text, email, contacts, camera/video. Everything else can go. I'd like to give the device one last chance before selling it on or throwing away and any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Id buy it from you if you really dont want it :) There are custom roms about, some which are faster. Have you tried a samsung official update?
Guest Sb. Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) To be honest nothing has changed in respect to speed. Ive been through heaps of roms always flashing the latest and the lag when opening messages is still there, freezing issues, lag with a fair few programs still exists and the whole experience hasnt changed much, basically its still the same crap M$ puts out. Im running the latest WinMo 6.5 at the moment and the only thing that has changed is the look. The home page is sort of finger friendly but once you go into a program you need the stylus and you can see that its still 6.1 at heart with just a different facade. In my opinion if I were you id sell both phones and buy something new like the HTC HD2 or wait a little while more and get something which will be able to run windows 7. I cant wait for my contract to expire as I will be buying something a lot more easier to use but customizable which is the only thing I like with my omnia. Dont get me wrong, it has been fun at times but frustrating as well and the thrill of constantly upgrading roms and customizing has been the only positive thing but if you want a phone which will work how it should without worries then get rid of it! Guest z3ntn3l Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 try a 23506 lite rom (maybe the one from ryrzy). Its fast and stable. Opening a message (with WinMo6.5 Messaging) on HD2 isnt that faster.
Guest Sb. Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 try a 23506 lite rom (maybe the one from ryrzy). Its fast and stable. Opening a message (with WinMo6.5 Messaging) on HD2 isnt that faster. Apparently its because its all going through outlook, but the whole process just looks shitty it lags then the message opens then keyboard opens then closes and then you press in the box to write and the keyboard reopens.....jesus its just sh%t. I cant believe that with all the money and engineers working at M$ that they cant make this better. Im feeling sceptical about windows 7 mobile. The whole package just feels like its far from finished....real far!!! If apple can do it why cant M$??? Back to the point, download any new lite rom without titanium or manila and install SPB mobile shell 3.5 and thats the best to perfection you will get with windows mobile.
