hi guys and gals some advice please so things don't go wrong this time.

right i had a HTC Hero on latest orange firmware, which i then rooted and installed the recovery image 1.3.2 all this went fine, I then download modaco rom 2.9 and the latest radio the one with IU in the name, coped both to the sd card, the booted into the recovery image.

Then i flashed the rom this went fine, then i flashed the radio after this finished it said reset the phone but as i picked it up i court the home button again and it started to flash again then the phone reset and a box with a orange arrow pointing to a phone appeared i waited a min or too nothing happened so i removed battery and tried to power on and nothing, no lights no recovery mode no nothing.

now why did this happen and how do i stop it happing next time also why is it that this is not mention in any guide i have read. all that i have read DO NOT MENTION THAT SCREEN OR WHAT TO DO. there should be a updated sticky me thinks

anyway and advice what to do or not do next time would be great thanks guys and gals

Hello,

The screen you are talking about is part of the upgrade process. You're right that it isn't mentioned in any of the 'how to' guides. But you see the screen every time you re-flash an image.

Be patient when you see the screen and you will EVENTUALLY see the normal HTC logo and your phone will boot up. I remember once it took almost 10 minutes before my phone started up after reflashing, so just be patient as pulling out your battery isn't going to help!!!

Hope this helps...

what you do is NEVER REMOVE THE BATTERY WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING SOMETHING, wait it out, these things take time. Eventually that thing would have disappeared and your phone would have rebooted and worked fine.

well i have new phone now so will try again later, im thinking that for some reason battery was fully drained at that point (even tho it was justed charged before i started) as when i put battery in new phone it was dead. i will post here when i have done it

What he said. Don't remove the battery when flashing else it's your own fault for bricking your phone. Be patient...

all i have to add to that is have a wall charger or usb cable at hand, and have it plugged it while messing with stuff like low level storage manipulation (aka FLASHING). also don't panic under 10-15 minutes, depending on what you what you are doing. flashing of a rom or radio takes some time, first reboot can take up to ten minutes. do not ever pull the battery before you sat out a whooping few hours, i.e. plug it in and go to sleep.

so its ok to have charger plugged in wile flashing the phone well that's weird i mean with the radio part being replaced how would it know what to do with the charger. As that part of the software control network protocols, battery level indicators ect its a bit like a bios (well it is if its like every other phone) like a PPM pack for a Nokia.

Well like i say u live and learn and also like i say non of the flashing guides mention that screen in them so i did not know what to do. normally if im flashing a phone and a weird arse screen like that comes up i remove the battery and reflash/force flash the phone. but for the love of me i could not find the FBUS connector lol and universal box nor jaf/twister seem to have a htc hero option

anyway i will try again

Right guys i have flashed 2.9 rom now time for addon pack and radio but before i do that can someone please confirm is IU the right one also is it correct that i should see the screen i got scared at in the first place and just to leave the phone and wait also how long do u have to wait after you flash the radio for the phone to boot.

sorry to ask all this but as i only just got this replacement i think if i kill this one they might guess summit is up

don't know how you are connecting the radio to the charger?

iu is the right one. wait until it is done, few minutes. just wait.

my ubuntu show 9.0 mb for the file update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22-signed.zip, md5 is 8fceb343a826d6c29301329ff394cc33

no need to wipe when update radio, nevertheless do a nandroid before, goes without saying (always do a nandroid before anything).

please forget about the bios, bios is so 80's and without crappy ms windows you wouldn't have found it in any pc for the last 10 years. afaik windows (up to at least xp) is the single operating system depending on a bios.

edit: trying to research what i just said (yepp, first write then think :) ) i am not so sure about what i said about windows. anyway, the bios is just kept for compatibility reasons in modern pcs, and is oldschool bullcrap. computers would be better without it, a fact that is addressed by EFI for example.

edit2: just for the sake of it: according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Fi...erating_systems windows supports EFI from vista sp1 and up, for the consumer versions. linux did this since 2000 in general...

no idea what that is :) just make sure your phone won't run out of battery while flashing anything, could cause serious trouble. although i am amazed how resistant the hero is against half-knowing noobs (myself included) bricking them by flashing random files... not totally idiot-proof, but according to the numbers of really bricked devices around here i'd say as idiot-proof as it gets :D
