HTC Hero Manual Update

Hi peeps,

I have seen people who have the ability to check for updates on their android phones but my HTC hero (previously orange branded) hasn't ever had this ability, it's not in any of the menus on the old (orange) rom or the generic HTC rom.

Am I missing something really obvious?!?!

Dont think so. I believe the Tattoo can do this but it is running Android 1.6.
