Hi,

First of all i apologize if these have been asked before but i have browsed and searched and not found an answer to my questions, im actually surprised there is no FAQ stickied.

Anyway i have an i900 and im looking to try WM 6.5 and some custom roms, but never having played with phones before here are my questions.

  1. I have an australian i900 on virgin network, do i need an australian rom to be able to use WM 6.5 on my phone?
  2. Do i need to have an unlocked phone? if so how do i check its lock status, currently i can use my phone on optus, virgin and telstra so i assume it is allready unlocked.
  3. How easy is it to brick my phone? is there a way to reduce the chance of bricking it?
  4. Where is the best place for a beginner to start? im just looking for a simple plain jane WM 6.5 nothing fancy and then maybe after i learn a bit more i can fiddle with some more things.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Ragrim !

1) To use WM 6.5 on your phone you can flash your i900, with any custom ROM with a WM 6.5 base here, choose the one you like and give it a try ! Very good ROMs makers are here !

2) To flash to another ROMs, you do not need to unlock your phone. But if you want to check if your phone is unlocked check this link...

http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...omnia-it-works/

3) Sector, one of the best ROMs maker here has made a very good tutorial about flashing, follow all the steps of his tutorial will prevent you from bricking your phone !

http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...00-omnia-phone/

4) Read what Modaco's users say and the sticky posts ! You'll learn a lot, even if it is difficult to understand all at the first sight.

Basically, you have 4 kinds of WM 6.5 Roms :

M2D (Manilla 2D) : Like this >> http://img198.imageshack.us/i/screen02y.jpg/

Classic : Like this >> http://img690.imageshack.us/i/screen06.jpg/

Neo Titanium : Like this >> http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac186/h...ScreenShot1.jpg

Lite/Ultra Lite Roms : ROMs with almost everything removed, very light and a lot of free storage memory left basically.

Hope this helped you !

Thanks for the info.

Before i go ahead with anything i just want to check, would it be safe to use the Build 23506 M2D rom from this Thread

Keeping in mind i have an australian phone if that makes any differance.

Nope, no difference. Ryrzy's ROMs are very good. I switched from him to Hammer's because of memory usage, but he is a very good chef. You can go ahead and flash, since his ROM's don't update the phone part, just the PDA part.

i flashed my aussie optus i900 to 23506 FloTanium with PUIE1 Phone Part by Nicklashidegard, was unsure at first, was happy with the original rom (i had flashed the buggery out of my hermes), but since going to 6.5 i could never turn back, i'm waiting for the 23509 build to finish downloading so i can flash again, the speed of 23506 is excellent, though i want the classic version this time, dont use the m2d much  :)

I flashed 2 differant roms last night to try them out and im realy happy with them, its like a new phone!

There realy should be an FAQ for beginners about this.
